Scratches & Scuffs in plastic

Hi all,



Do you have any easy solutions (term used loosely) for bad scuffing and scratches in vinyl/plastic trim. I know it will never look new again, but the surface has a few serious marks which have a much lighter colour than the dark blue surface. They are very rough to touch so something heavy was rubbed against it. I read somewhere about using Methyl Ethyl Ketone on things like this - has anyone used this before? I'd like to know the effect it has on plastic.

Depending on how deep the scratch is it may not come out. scuff marks are also hard to get out of the vinyl but they do come out. meguiar's all purpose cleaner then meguiar's #40 with a terry cloth towel and some elbow grease should remove the scuff marks.

Meguiars has a couple of plastic polishes, and Wax Shop's Safe Cut is also pretty good. In addition, your local Porsche dealer has a great plastic polish they sell for the back plastic windows on Boxsters.

what about for clear plastics? anything to use by hand to get scratches or scuffs out?

I have removed lots of small scratches from clear plastics using 3M Plastic polish.



Headlights, the plastic cover in front of the gauges, etc. For some applications, I use a dremel with a buffing pad.



Using the same method on scuffed viynl has givin me some success, depending on the type of viynl and how bad the scuffing is. The most common place I see this, is on the lower side of the door panel where the driver/passangers feet often scrape while getting in and out of the car.
