Scorpio Update

I spent a little time before the Superbowl yesterday attacking the paint. We had some big storm come in so I went just about 2 days without power. Kinda slowed progress.

Anyway, here is a shot showing the hood and front fender completed.

Today is supposed to be nice so I should be able to finish the paint and can get started on the plastic molding.
 
WOW! That's the craziest turnaround I've seen in a while. What was your process? It looks great, can't wait for the whole car to be done.
 
So far I used soft scrub to remove the bulk of the oxidation and get rid of the mold and moss from the paint and rubber.

I'm using a power buffer with a wool pad and Megs Diamond Cut Compund. The Megs is pretty cool stuff. It breaks down quickly to a mild polish. You almost cannot over polish.

After that I used Mothers pre-wax polish and then mothers carnuba cleaner wax. Both by hand. I don't have one of those nice PC polishers (yet).

It is supposed to be nice today so I will finish the paint and start on the gray plastic. The last external step will be to polish the headlights.

I have a replacement spoiler and new wheel coming later this week. I want to tint the windows before I put the interior back in. I figure it will be done in about two weeks.
 
you gotta watch that, the condition of the paint was in such bad shape initially, the wax and sealant or whatever you used will fade in the near future........
what products did you use
keep us posted......the car really looks good
 
sorry you said you used mothers stuff, once again i failed to read prior posts
and DEFINATELY GET a porter cable or something
let us know how the mothers products hold up

Interesting comment. My son's badly neglected Honda Prelude did exactly that. He had a 1/4 panel repaired, (The usual Honda rust), and I polished up the rest of the car. Looked great for a month or two and then the original paint was dead again. My friends at the body shop just said, "Yeah, that's pretty typical, especially with red." It would/will be interesting to see this car after a few months of exposure to the elements.

I agree red is going to take more maintenance. I've owned red cars before and if you let them go they will oxidize. The factory paint on this car is not all that great either.

I'm using mothers for now. I've been reading the forums and visiting the sponsor sites. I will go over the car once more before taking it to a club meeting. It needs to be clayed, but it is too cold for it to work very well.

I did finish up the red yesterday. Here is a progress photo:

I think that based on what you have to work with this car is coming right along!
