Scheerspeed Detailed: Resurrected '93 corvette (138 pics!)

So as i was doing my last detail on the CLS63, the next door neighbor came over to check out my work. he asked me to come take a look at his two corvettes that he had. well at first i thought all it would need was a SIP and 85RD to fix everything, so i gave a quote accordingly.

however when i returned to detail the car i found that it wasn't going to be as easy as i thought! this car required wetsanding on the top panels to remove some serious acid rain etching that was left. i was able to take out a lot of it, but there were still some RIDS and rain etching that were just too deep for me to feel safe in taking out. First i went with 2000 grit sandpaper, then a black tuf buf wool pad (thanks Joyride1113!) for 3-5 passes with M95 compound on some panels, and followed that up with SIP on a gray 3M UK pad and then 85RD on a blue 3M UK Ultrafina pad. these pads are amazing. they polish so smoothly in conjunction with the 3M backing plate

i am aware that i took off a lot of clear, but the owner wante it as perfect as possible, so i gave him what i could. this car is a garage queen as well, only taken out 2-3 times a month. he was aware that there could be a possible danger with removing so much paint, but he said that if it couldn't get to good enough shape he would repaint it. but he was AMAZED wit hhow good it came out. he just kept staring at the finish once i was done with it.

i topped that detail off with dodo juice lime prime lite and supernatural version 2.0 and fk425 to repel the dust.

Pay close attention to how DEEP some of this etching was! i am really thinking about getting a paint gauge and a air sander after doing this car! would have made my life so much easier! i spent 6 hours on the trunk alone!

Nice recovery, and great job capturing the true condition in your photos. Now go take a break...that job looked tiring for sure!

Holy Moly!!! :wow:

That is one amazing turnaround!!!!!!!!

Great choice of products! I don't use M105 much, but it does work great on Corvette clear.

Just about all C4's have similar acid rain damage. There are a number of cars that were actually repainted from the factory because many of them sat outdoors without any protection. They finall changed the paint they were using in 96'.

How did you like the blacl lambswool pad?

It looks amazing. Keep up the great work!! :2thumbs:
