I picked up the following MF's at Long's yesterday:
Butler Cleanall Waffle Weave MF 70/30 for $5.49 12 x14
3M Scotch Brite MF High Performance Cloth 80/20 for $4.99 12 x 14
Viper 2 pack MF 80/20 plush for $8.99 16 x 16
The Butler is the highest quality waffle weave I have seen so far. It is a really nicely made MF. Easily worth 50 cents more than the 3M. Absorbs water really well and no linting! These look great for window cleaning. The tag had to be cut with a scissor. I’m not sure I would want to try the waffle weave on my paint, it just isn’t plush enough. This is a well-made waffle MF. The instructions on the package are very similar to the 3M package in style, applications, etc. They may be manufactured by the same company and supplied to 3M and Butler.
3M Scotch Brite appears to be a waffle weave but finer waffle pattern than the Butler towel. The quality of the 3M seems lower than the Butler in that it is much lighter weight material. This towel did not lint during the glass wipe test but was not as absorbent as the Butler Cleanall. The instructions claim, “ hot water safe (95C), chlorine bleach safe and dryer safe through hundreds of washes. Hmmm, this is a first for MF's.
The Viper 2 pack is interesting. These green vipers are really plush and appear to be well made. Much better than the blue vipers I have, these are labeled Ultra MF, as in plusher, thicker, heavier. They look similar to the MT I got from CMA last summer but are 80/20's not 70/30's like Yo Steve and Neatitems. While really plush, heavyweight and well made, these towels lint during my mirror wipe test just like my CMA MT. Maybe a few washes will help. It was easy to remove the tag from the cloth. If the linting stops, these will be great towels, if not they join my linting MT’s pile- looks good, very plush, feels good, lints bad… After washing the Viper MF's, they still lint. Actually other than the green color, they appear identical to the CMA MT that I have. Too bad they lint so much.
At least there are more options these days......
