Sapphire Black Metallic M Roadster

Well, here I am 6 months after purchasing my dream car in black. I was warned, but I didn't listen. The car is beautiful but problems with the paint are driving me crazy.

The car was delivered in horrible condition, and the dealership paid for a professional detailing ... but it still sucked. The major problem was haze swirls in the wax - like they put too much on and couldn't get it off. You can only tell in bright sunlight - but it looks like junk!!!

To further my pain, this raunchy bird laid some toxic poo on the hood ... and my hack detailing skills of polishing compound didn't work, now I just have swirl marks in the paint on top of the toxic poo stain. Arrrrggggg ... Mind you, the car has 3000 miles on it and I am totally discusted with the paint.

I'm have a bad case of OCD already, but when you couple that with not having a clue how to detail a car you just end up with a bigger mess than you started with. Luckily a friend saw my frustration and directed me to this wonderful site, where I am going to allow my OCD to take over so I can get my car to better than new condition.

First, I will start with the fact that I just ordered some Scratch X to address the toxic poo issue (thanks to reading other toxic poo stories). Yes, I know I could have picked it up at the store, but I needed some P21S wheel cleaner too, so I just ordered it.

Secondly, before I start using Scratch X to start digging into my clearcoat on the car I want to make sure that I know how to use this stuff and protect against it after I am done. I expect that I will be doing the entire hood, since I need to remove the haze swirl marks anyway (did I mention how tacky it looks?). Any advice on a process to follow would be great.

Finally, I have known that I needed a PC for quite some time, and I almost ordered one. Then I realize that there are kits - a whole plethora of kits that don't mean much to me at this time. In leiu of waiting for to knowledge level to catch up with my checkbook - I would like to purchase something now in order to have it available for when I start learning. What kit would ya'll recommend for my black bimmer?

This kit? http://autopia-carcare.com/son-daspol-kit.html

Thanks in advance ... here's a picture of my baby (unfortunately, no pictures of the haze swirls, but owners of black cars should know what I am talking about):

I'd say to have a pro from Autopia detail it for you first. Watch him - that is the best way to learn. You will create more harm than good. m2c.

Once it is in top shape you can maintain it using your pc.

I tell you this because of the color of your car. Light color is another issue. :)

1. I would get this kit:

You get more pads, towels, and a sample of Snappy Clean - it's the kit I purchased about a year ago and I loved it (autopia) for a 10% discount

2. I don't understand the bird poo part...Is the bird poop off your car yet and there is just like a ring where it was? If so, the bird poop etched into your paint because of how acidic it was...the damage bird poop can cause is dependent on what was in the poop, if he ate something really acidic too add to the poop....It might have done some irreversable damage...But you can fix those swirls!

Do you want me to type up a little something for the essentials of detailing your personal vehicle? Or are you not really looking into getting rid of the swirls yet? Thanks!

Thanks both of you. The bird poo is my #1 concern right now, I am really afraid it is all the way into the paint. It's more than just a ring. I will try to post a picture.

I would really like to find a Bay Area detailer that wouldn't mind me looking over his/her sholder ... but the last professional I used didn't do that great of a job. Recommendations for a good NorCal detailer would be great.

SUCCESS!!!!

Toxic bird poo and rubbing compound scratches removed with ScratchX ... what a dream product that is! Then I finished it off with her first coat of Zymol, she's better then new now!

:getdown

Oooo... Looks beautiful! Are there any swirls anymore on the paint surface? I also noticed (at least in this picture) that there's very little orange peel on the paint? That's pretty amazing.

nice.

I would still look into a PC kit. The one mentioned above from autogeek would be a great choice. It will help you immensely keeping your M in top condition. Once you start doing this regularly, you will keep some resale value as well for such a clean car! :)

I did my dad's 2002 F250 Super Duty, and after a full cleaning, polishing, and wax. We were quoted 2,000 $ more O.O

It's hard to believe you did that just by hand Dave! Scratch X sure worked for you in this case. Do look into getting a PC kit so you can maintain the finish and reduce your effort in keeping it that way.
