Sander/Polisher

I have seen a few sander/polishers for sale here lately. Has anyone ever tried to polish a car with one of these machines?? They are very cheap, but it just seems to me; not having ever used anything but a buffer; that they would cause more problems than they would solve. Any thoughts??

Ive seen a few from Craftsman, and one from Chicago, then a few I cant remember the names of. They are combination sander/polishers...and the rpm range tends to be only from 1200-2500.

Some of them might work, but I would go with a straight rotary for compounding or polishing.
