Salt buildup on interior Carpet

Here in the midwest (Michigan) business will start to pickup as the treat of Snow and Ice deminishes. However, during the winter months as clients get in and out of their vehicles SALT is tracked in as well. What I have seen is that it tends to roll off the floor matts and pool into spots near the door and carpet. As it does it tends to form a hard crusty salt block.
Q:What is the best method to remove this buildup and restore the carpet to a soft fabric again without to much scrubing and fading?
 
Since I still vacuum every week even in the winter, salt build-up isn't a problem.
One thing I have found when you do track some muddy type stuff in is that brushing it while vacuuming will get a lot of it out before you ever try to actually clean the carpet. I usually vaccum, brush, vacuum, scrub, and vacuum again when I get into a real mess.

I have always used GSRstilez carpet regimen and have had no trouble bringing back carpets from saltry to soft.

hey guys, i find what works is spraying the spot with a carpet or all purpose cleaner and letting it soak for a few minutes. i either use a scrub brush or if is really caked in there, i use a flat head screw driver to loosen up the chunks and then vacuum it up.
 
Thanks for the feedback gentleman. I have read GSRStilez regimen and will have to put it to the test. I noticed it is a popular read and the before and after shots say it all.

Since it sounds like you are in the detailing business, you should probably invest in a hot water extractor. My $600 unit works great.
 
Yeah, an extractor is way worth the money. You can get a brand new "Bissell Little Green Machine" at Home Depot for something like $70. You won't believe how dirty your carpets are until you use one. Also, you can go to www.jondon.com. Someone at DC is a professional carpet cleaner and recommended that site. They are very nice people, have great products, and I think they even have "tips". I personally bought an immersible heater from them for $40. $70+$40= An economical way to thoroughly clean your carpet
 
I've found that using just plain water and a brissle brush will also get the job done. I too have this problem as I live in WI.
