Keep it clean !!!
Detailing in 31 to 37 degree temperatures is definitely a bit challenging, but I have been biting at the bit to give my recently acquired Metabo PE 7175 rotary buffer a “test on a challenging car. Well the “challenge came in the form of a black Saab 9-7 SUV which was coming off lease. The customer needed the car detailed for the return inspection, and he described the exterior as pretty badly scratched over the entire vehicle. Filled my water tank with hot water and set out at 9:00 AM to take on the beast armed with my new toy.
After a wash and clay, I saw that the vehicle was definitely in need of a moderate compounding, and started out with the PE 7175 with a green Edge pad and Hi-Temps Heavy Cut Leveler. Some of the scratches needed a bit more bite and Hi-Temps heavy cut compound was used with an Edge black foam pad.
Final finish withn PC 7424 and Menzerna FP, sealed with Poorboys EX.
The Metabo buffer is so light weight compared to my other buffers (Dewalt 849, Makita 2779 & Milwaukee 5460) I immediately noticed how easy it was to buff in tight areas. I used much less masking tape around these areas and felt control that was pinpoint accurate and without any forearm fatigue !!! Variable speed from 600-2200 rpms and a silky smooth quiet motor. This just may be the Carrera GT of rotary buffers !!!
Love this new buffer, and from what I understand the new Metabo is improved over this older version.
