Rust in Paint Chip

Hey, Everybody.

Recently I got a small paint ship on my front fender that got through the paint and now there is a tiny bit of rust forming in there. My question is: how do I get the little bit of rust out without causing anymore damage to the paint? It is a very small chip and I can't figure out how to get it out before using touch up paint. Any info would be awesome! Thanks!

To clean the inside I would use some paint thinner...on the end of a Q-tip and try and work that into the hole best you can..let that dry up that should clean up the surface OK to start applying the touch up paint...I use a match stick to apply the paint and then build up to the surface of the car

Thanks for the quick response! So the paint thinner won't damage my paint? I'd imagine this has to be done quickly. A matchstick you say? Are you talking about putting the paint on the striking end?

I would use a very fine modelers brush, like the kind you use to build plastic models...take your time and layer the paint, you will find the results much better then one single blob...

No the thinner will not hurt the paint to speak of...just keep it from dripping down the car...The end that you use should be the non striking end so that its the soft paper stick end...or as suggested a artist paint brush can be a good tool

Really there is not that much rust in the hole that I would be concerned with...what you want to do is clean the hole of anything that will keep the paint from bonding to the surface...then as suggested layer it in a little at a time...let dry real good between coats...once it is filled in you can use some polish to level to out
