Rubber removal products

Hey guys,

So I have a few drag race cars in my family. I'm pretty sure everyone is aware that these cars do burnouts before each run. Well, during these burnouts, melted rubber/track compound (sometimes) is throw up on the rear bumper. Usually I just use some bug and tar to remove the rubber/compound after the runs but I wasn't sure if you guys had a better idea. I use regular Bug & Tar from Pep boys. It's mostly cleaned off after every race, so it's pretty fresh too.

What do you guys think would be the best cleaner for this? I would need it to remove the rubber, but keep the paint shiny and nice.

Thanks guys,

Mike

What if you put something on the paint prior to the race that prevented the rubber from sticking? Or maybe a clear film that you could peel off afterward?

Just a thought, Josh

I have sold the Rejex product to racers for this purpose, have had good feedback. Basically it is a sealant that you apply first, then just wash the vehicle after the race.

Another possible idea is a temp clear bra, Griot's Garage sells a product that is temporary clear sheild for road trips. I use this product for door sill plates and when working on cars to protect the paint from any damage before while leaning, when done you pull it off and throw it away.

You could put some 3M tape on the back bumper. To clean it you could try some 3M adhesive remover, or maybe stoners tarminator? I know some people use WD40.

Not sure if misunderstood your post, and if I did my appologies.

Tarminator is okay for use on paint, but it removes the gloss from 3M clear film. The only tar remover that is okay on clear film that I know of is Autoglym Tar Remover.

I have attached this from another post. Like you, many views...no post. I'm laughing that you posted this but I wanted you to see the video. This is a real fix done in real time. Once this is on the surface, you could literally remove fresh tire and asphalt in a couple of minutes. This video is an extreme case since the owner didn't remove the mess for a year, car is going in for some rust fixes and new paint. If you have any additional questions on the removal process, feel free to contact me at mark@acrylicwerks.com.

I read your post wrong then, you mentioned 3M then what to use to clean the rubber. I read it as, put the 3M and use these products to remove the rubber from the 3M afterwards.

You are correct the Tarminator on paint will work perfectly, however will also remove any LSP.

IMO, I think the best thing is the tear away film Surface Protection Film Roll - Everyday and Storage - Car Maintenance - Griot's Garage smaller size Surface Protection Film Mini Roll - Everyday and Storage - Car Maintenance - Griot's Garage
