Rotten leather

Seems to be very different oppinions on this. Some say just get a new interior, some say the car is totaled...

I dont even know if its a flood car! :/

So, let's just say if it's NOT a flood car and the interior is the only f-d up thing, I should just remove the whole interior and clean it and reinstall with some new seats? (Removing and reinstalling the interior is no problem for me. I'm just not expierenced in.... mold :S)

I like this car, and I like the tan leather.

Well you seem very determined in getting this car, but mold can cause all sorts of health problems if not completely removed. If you really want this car and you think that it is such a good deal then talk to some pros like "Service master" cleaning and have them tell you what they think would be needed in order to get it clean. The reason why I recommend Service master is that they do mold removal for a living whereas most detailers do not.

I would personally walk away from this. It may be a salvageable endeavor, but it may not be worth it. You will never know unless you research it with a pro though.

I have had customers with smaller mold problems in the interior. Using a combination of a good germicide/fungicide and an ozone generator took care of it. I did have the customers come back a couple of more times to make sure that the treatment worked, because you have to stay on top of it. With that said, these treatments can be expensive and sometimes need to be done multiple times.

Service Masters would be glad to help you just give them a call and most importantly find out from the owner what happened and also get a car fax report. If a flood claim was ever placed on the vehicle it will then be in the report. Sometimes if it is too good to be true then it probably is.

Cars don't just mold? If you're considering keeping this vehicle, you're playing with some serious health risks. Mold like this is a borderline bio-hazard and are very complex to repair in this state. You're making a good decision for passing on this one.

Well, thats what this thread was about, is it a good buy or is the reason for the low price obvious.

Now i know and I'm in no doubt that I won't buy this car.

I agree with what the others are saying. If you want to go ahead and buy this, then I would check a junkyard on replacing the interior. You could replace the seat covers with new ones from Katzkin. As for cleaning, I don't think it would do much good.

Just to give you an idea, for re-dyeing that interior I would probably charge around $1000 (which wouldn't solve the mold underneath). That with what others have said about possible mechanical probs. Throw it back in the water. But it did make for an interesting thread.

If you can charge that much, then I should relocate to the your city.:chuckle:

Heh, wow.

I got a MkIII Jetta GT running a few weeks ago with some friends, it had been sitting in a backyard for 2 years under a tree and the interior was worse than that...the sunroof had been left open a crack and bugs got in, moss was growing, etc. Didn't smell all that moldy though and cleaned up decently, car drove fine.

That definitely looks like a flood car though...damn.
