Rotary Reccomendation

I used to have a Makita 9227C. I had to sell it when I moved out due to money issues. Can you reccomend one for me? I see alot of talk of different ones. Can you add some linkage so I can see prices too. When I first bought my makita package it was around 350 I think

I like the Metabo because of the lighter weight, but is is a little different with the lack of a conventional trigger (it has an on/off switch like a PC) and it does cost a bit more.

If you are already used to/familiar with the Makita then that or the Hitachi are also very good choices and both of them will run a bit less than a Metabo unless you find a super buy somewhere.

Ouch the Hitachi is on a nice backorder I see. Hrmm. Nice to see the Makita is no where near what I paid the first time around. uugghhh.

Can I use my flexable backing plate and my LC 6.5 inch pads on the rotary? Or do you need to use larger pads due to the speeds?

You don't have to use bigger pads on the rotary ... but the backing plate is different for the PC and rotary as the threads are different.

What backing plate do I need for my LC 6.5 Pads? I looked on Danase and they dont seem to carry a size for those for a rotary.

I have had my Makita for 2 + years now and have used it a LOT. I like the "feathered trigger" to where you can control the speed through the pressure on the trigger. Its been good overall. It is on the heavy side, is my only complaint.

I use 6.5 inch pads with mine. I believe (but cannot remember) that I have a 5 inch or 5 1/4 in backing plate on mine.

My advice may not be worth much, but I will throw in my opinion. All I have ever had was cheap random orbitals until I purchased a Makita 6040. I got it because I trust Makita and because it serves two purposes. It can go from RO to rotary with the flip of a switch. I have never used anything else so I cant compare to others, but I really like the 6040. It is well balanced and not too heavy, very versatile and has handled everything I have thrown at it. Plus @ $230 shipped the price isnt bad. Buy a reputable brand and you should be happy, good luck.
