Rotary polishing?

The new Dewalt looks like a very nice machine. I pick up my Flex PE14 when PAC was closing so I got an amazing deal I couldn't pass up. I have used it primarily for jeweling so far as I an learning as I go.

I'l buy the new version DeWalt X.

I had a Flex 3403 before.

I had a 3403 for a short time and peddled it. Great minds must think alike because I didn't much like the 3401 either, mostly due to lack of multiple BPs (at the time) and also because I found it more work than a rotary chasing it around.

I started with an ATD Makita clone... virtually indistinguishable from a 9227 except for the color. As Makita is one of the manufacturers listed for ATD products I'd guess it was rebranded. Although the ATD served me well the heft was kicking my butt on large vehicle's vertical surfaces. The PE14 turned out to be the best of all world's, IMO. Those Dewalts look kinda hefty to me.

A tidbit to keep in your back pocket just in case... you're in the middle of a job that requires rotary and yours takes a dump. Head down to your local NAPA, most I've seen stock ATDs for around 75 bucks. Best bang for the buck on any tool I ever bought. I know I'll be kicking myself some day for giving it away when I got the Flex. :wall

Just remember Mark the Makita 9227 polisher has a variable speed from 600 to 3000 rpm for super slow buffing to aggressive polishing.

I am very happy with mine as well :yay

As am I! :bigups

I have the Dewalt and Makita too but they will be sitting on the bench now. I used to be die hard Dewalt fan but the Makita was quiter and once I got used to the soft start I liked it more than my Dewalt....though the Dewalt is still a workhorse!

Thanks again everyone! You all are awesome!

No, I have the previous 849 model. With the new one having the 600rpm start I'd probably like it better than the Makita, as that was the other thing I did like about mine...actually haven't used it in over 3 years! :D

Thanks, Angelo. I didn't see your response before. :bigups:

I have a feeling I'm gonna like a rotary now that I'm motivated to learn how to use it.

I will have my Meg's G110v2 as needed.

My poor 3401, I have zero desire to use that thing anymore. :(

I have and use all 3 - well actually have a couple more, but use my Flex PE14-250 Rotary the most, but will still break out the Flex 3401VRG to apply a Glaze or an LSP if Im in a hurry, and will always use my Meguiars G110V2 for small areas with a 3' or 4" pad.

Good luck with your Rotary ! I love my 3 ! :)
