Hey guys. I've gotten into detailing for the past couple of months and have spent a lot of time reading and researching the forums. I've gotten a PC and several popular polishes/lsps and lake country pads.

A couple of months ago I got to detail my RSX. I used Optimum polish on a white pad which at first seemed to make the paint really nice, and I proceeded to use RMG and EX-P to seal it off. But later under sun light I still saw light swirls. :(

I got to do my dad's 05 Altima a few ago. It had swirls similar to the RSX. I tried using OP on white and orange pads, but no go. Same with Optimum compound on a orange pad and then a yellow pad - the swirls were still there. I posted it about it, and it seemed like I did not work it in enough, but I did use a lot of time and effort with minimal results. I was disappointed with how little PC did to correct the swirls, considering the swirls weren't even that bad compared to what I've seen here.

So I order a dry-harbor rotary and a LC backing plate.

Today, I tried again with the PC and worked a small section with OC and an orange pad on my RSX. After putting significant pressure (10-20lbs) on the PC, the swirls were still visible under sunlight. I decided to go ahead with the rotary and used OP on a orange pad. I taped up the edges, and followed the ground rules - kept the pad flat and even on the paint, and constantly but slowly moved. The paint got a bit warm, but definitely nowhere near hot. Within a minute or two (per section) - the swirls were finally gone :D. I was very happy. I topped it off with RMG and EX-P.

I'm very satisfied that I went ahead and tried using the rotary. I was focused, careful, but confident with it. I don't think I'll ever go back to a PC for paint correction, but will still keep it for AIO application, as well as LSPs.

I know I've said a lot. I'd appreciate feedback from you guys on my experience.

noooorb- Glad to hear you found something to do that correction. A *lot* of people have trouble getting the marring out with only the PC, at least with the ~6" pads and/or a reasonable amount of time. You might still find the PC handy if you ever get any holograms from the rotary, but with both machines it sounds like you're all set.

For those that dont want to step up to a rotary for whatever reason get yourself a small backing plate and some 4 inch pads. You would be amazed at how much more correction that you can do with the smaller pads. The PC does not have to struggle as much to move the larger pad and IMO seems to produce more power.

Ive been kicking around the idea of getting a rotary for quite some time, i think im now sold. Where did you pick yours up at??

Glad to hear the swirls are gone! :D

Yep, you even need to be a little *careful* with the 4" pads. The only time I ever damaged clear with a PC was with 4" pads. Heh heh, it was worse than anything I've ever done with a rotary!

OUCH, hehe.

I moved up to a rotary after using the PC for a few months...swirl correction was just a little too slow for me on 6" pads. The 4" do work much better and I was able to clean up 2000 wetsanding with about 4 passes on the PC. I still wanted to try the rotary, only because I've used one years ago(when you could still spray laquers), and I know how fast you can get work done.

I got a Hitachi and am quite happy. Gets rid of swirls in more than half the time of the PC. However, I still like to finish up with the PC using OPS. Just something about OPS, how it melts into the paint nice and slick gives me great satisfaction.:LOLOL

Having both machines with 2 different pads works for me.
