Rotary for light swirl removal?

I do wonder, however, just how much quieter will a rotary be compared to a PC? I assume it's going to vary by manufacturer, but can anybody recommend a really quiet one?

The Makita is much quiter then the Dewalt, especially under load. IMO the Makita is probably a bit louder then the PC at normal polishing rpm (1200-1400 rpm).

Noting that I've never given any thought to how loud these machines are, he's trying to go from using a PC to using a rotary because the rotary is *quieter* :nixweiss

I dunno if dynamatting the PC would make it overheat; it's not like the thing gives off a lot of heat so I don't think there's much being generated that needs to be dissipated. The Cyclo just has a little area above the motor for heat to escape and it's not like it gives off a lot of warm air or anything.

Yea it really bums me out to deal with noise restrictions, but I guess I have to make with whatever I can. Accumulator, when you say the Makita is a bit louder than the PC during normal polishing speed, would that be comparable to a 5 or 6 on the PC?

Sorry for the confusion, I was quoting MichaelM's opinion about the Makita being louder. I can't really say how loud they are...in my shop they *all* sound pretty noisy.
