Rotary (9227) vs Dual Action (BO6040)

A few months back I decided to get a rotary, my first foray into machine detailing. A bold move, but I thought I was up to the job. Of the 5 or so times I used it, I did a pretty ggod job.. if I must say so myself. The problem was, it was taking me forever to get the finishe just right for waxing. i.e. removing 99.9% of the swirls and minor scratches. Plus I was using lots of product.

After much tooing and froing.. I decided to go buy a BO6040. And holy dooly.... I should have done it sooner and saved myself a bucket load of time.

I've found that the 9227 is really good for cutting the surface back and removing the majority of swirls. basically cutting the surface back to machine "swirls" Then with the BO6040, yellow Megs pad and Megs Quick Detailer #66. 99% of the swirls are gone. Then if I get real anal.. I can use the Megs beige pad with the megs swil remover and all but the deepest scratches are gone. Top off with Pinnacle Soverean and the finish is "ÄMAZING"

All this is a third of the time it took me with the 9227 alone..

Now, I understand that this is most likely due to my inexperience with a rotary. But for a noob to machine detailing, this combo is awesome.

I tried a panel using just the BO6040 and it took ages to get the surface to a level where there BO6040 is really effective.

I'll try to post some pics when I get a chance..

Ooops my bad..

They ar both Makitas. the 9227 is a rotary and the BO6040 is a force rotation random orbit.

a bit like the PC only it always rotates no matter how much pressure you apply.

so its better then the PC b/c it won't bog under pressure?

With respect to that? Yes! but it only has a 6mm throw where as the PC has a 10mm throw.

I have never used a PC so I can't comment on which is better or worse.. But I can say that the BO6040 is very easy to use and is a fantastic compliment to the Makita 9227

In another thread i mentioned how i'm using the 06040 to sand my floors. In respect to bogging under pressure, I could probaly attach a seat and ride it around my house. :)
