Rookie First Shot At a Full Detail

2007TBSS

New member
Loved it. Learned some things. Liked some of the stuff I bought, need to find replacements for some others. I chickened out on the PC and home polish and had it done professionally.

Not completely happy with it, but it was the best I could find. I looked all over and the closest person that knew what I was talking about when I talked about halogens and correction was in St. Louis. This guy was next best and said he did the same thing just not that way. Turns out NOT. Still some swirls and spider webs in the sunlight. better than it was. The last guy needs kicked repeatedly in the junk for the way he treated the paint.

Used:

303 Aerospace Protectant

Zaino Gran Finale

ONR

Chemical Guys Microfibers

New Dog Bone Microfiber Sponge

Assorted Brushes I picked up all over town

I wasn't impressed enough with the interior to take pics.:doh

Need to find:

New wheel well brush. This one sucks.

Interior Vinyl protectant. The 303 is nice, but too damned expensive to smear all over the entire interior.

Tire Treatment

Heavy Duty Carpet Cleaner

Next Step is Dawn wash and...

Yes, my wife already broke the handle off one of my Z-6 bottles.:rofl

I have Z-AIO, Z-5, Z-6 to go with the Gran Finale but we are having extremely unseasonal weather that is not cooperating with my desire to wax the SS.

I know I'm a rookie, but I'm picking it up slowly and buying products as I can.

Feel free to suggest the needed items.

looks like you did a really nice job! The reflection shot is money :). Try and get some sun shots to show the true reflection too. Overall though, i like it!

I'm assuming that my first time was like a lot of first times. Lots of learning with mediocre results.

Lots of time, effort, and expectations and then results were nowhere near what I am used to seeing on here. Like learning to paint with that funky haired dude. lol

I know that's why they are pros and I'm a machinist.

Looks good. Sucks the STL detail didn't work out for you. Have you had any problems with paint chipping on the lower doors? There was a service bulletin about it.

Like what? There is some paint wear down there from road grit it seems, but I'm not sure if that's what you mean.

That would be spectacular cause that really bothers me. lol

WOW. I didn't see anything on there to signify who I should contact? Maybe I should call the dealership??

I HATE that **** on my truck. I pisses me off like none other. I noticed it the week i bought it and it has bothered me since.

Thanks for the link!

No problem. Truck looks really good, I love those TBSS. Any plans for mods in the future?

Haha, I'll be adding a baby seat in a little less than 60 days. Does that count?:lol

EDIT: I printed that paint TSB out and am headed to Superior Chevrolet right after work. Fingers crossed for no nonsense and argument.

Sure looks better than my first details. One thing you might consider is cleaning and dressing the wheel wells, it just adds a nice touch. Not trying to be critical or condescending at all, just offering some friendly advice. Those TBSS's are nice rides.

For a first detail I think that truck looks professional. Using Zaino stufff, I hope you charged enough. The detail took two days ah. That would have taken about 3 hours @ my labor rate. Good work and GOOD LUCK. Ben

I bought a fender well brush but it sucked. The bristles are too far apart so it held no water/ONR to scrub with. I tried for a while on one well, then said screw it and figured I would get a better brush before next time.

Thanks!

I went in today. They tried to talk me out of "breaking the factory paint" and wanted to instead touch up the nicks and scratches and then do the 3M.

We him-hawed for a while and I told them I would prefer they did the whole deal.

It goes in Monday, then wait 90 days for the paint to cure, then they'll do the 3M.

it was actually pretty painless. I went in ready to rumble. lol

Hey that beats the heck out of my first detail. With the paint on my truck I feel like its a losing battle and every detail is just trying to slow the damage. Trees are not kind to paint.

That hood shot has remarkable mirror, be proud.
