Rolls Royce Limo

Morning all.
Im using lake pads and im looking to know what can be expected with the yellow pad v the orange any one have any experiance of the difference in cutting action.

I have a 1911 Rolls Royce to polish its stunning the car has been a 20 year project for my dad our painters had it back for colur sanding etc under close inspection im seeing scratches and sanding marks.
This is an exiting job to do it will look fantistic and does under normal conditions but my pad selection is critical due to the high value of these collector cars.
Im going to use those finished photos for my web site one day in the show car polish section.
Look forward to your comments.

Wow Jay, congrats on the project. A pre-WWI car is rare enough, add RR!
My only advice is to start with a light polish pad and work it in for a while. If it isn't doing it, go to a heavier pad. You can use different abrasive levels of polish as half steps between the pads.
Then after you've worked out all the sanding marks, repeat the steps in reverse. So, if:
1. Polish Pad + Light Abrasive Polish (doesn't work)
2. Light Cut Pad + Light Abrasive Polish (doesn't work)
3. Light Cut Pad + Medium Abrasive Polish (doesn't work)
4. Medium Cut Pad + Light Abrasive Polish (doesn't work)
5. Medium Cut Pad + Medium Abrasive Polish (works!)

Then you reverse
1. Medium Cut Pad + Light Abrasive Polish
2. Light Cut Pad + Medium Abrasive Polish
3. Light Cut Pad + Light Abrasive Polish
4. Polish Pad + Light Abrasive Polish

You could probably skip one of the four, light #2, and substitute a creamy, milky finishing polish and finishing pad for #4.

This is the "erring on the side of caution" approach. I'd like to see if anyone critiques it.

Just as PEI said. Start with least abrassive first. Stepping up with pad and product until the desired results are obtained. Why be in a hurry if this has already been a twenty year project.

Sure would be nice to see some posts of the project now and as it continue's.

What products are you planning on using? Post pic's and process. I am sure that there will be plenty here that would appreciate such a job!!

Thanks for the input guys .
I made a start last night I started on the front wing I have all the pb stuff autosmart compounds swirl removers cyclos ,pc etc I will endeavour to get some pictures up my camera has decided to eat batterys but im on the case so watch out.
I would estimate 2 days plus on this car its a deep burgandy with red and black pinstripes .
But theres no hurry like I said its been a 20 year project all my pads are soaking ready for cleaning as I dont want any cross contamination.

Will keep you posted thanks for the interest.

Jay.

Ps where can I find that buddy icon using a pc?.

This the one that you are referring to

Jay it sounds like a great project that you have.
You didn't say whether you were doing this by PC or a rotary, but you did mention that it was wet sanded. If possible you may want to try and get a measurement on how thick the paint is, no telling how much the shop took off.

Definately looking forward to the pics.

Good luck

I totally agree. The body shop that did the paint should have a mil meter. But unless the paint was stripped and primer-paint redone totally, your reading will be thicker than the top coat.

Hiya ,im hoping to just use the pc or cyclo looking to avoid the rotary as its already been used I agree with the paint thickness route thats an important point which i have considerd .

The body its self is a combination of wood and metal it was re fabricated as nec with new sheet metal then was blocked manualy with numerous guide coats untill perfect .
The wings are steel and custom fabricated so again new metal and paint there .

The paint system used was Dupont water based system .
PeI and jayb thats the little fella im after can he be snatched and stored or does he have a home?

Im going to have a play with the camera now see if I can sort it no doubt im going to need some help getting them on site.

Jay.

Just right click over him and click on properties (providing you are using IE or firefox)
copy the address and you would put it up like any other picture.

If you need any help with trying to get your pics posted, PM me and I will do what I can to help.
