Sorry for the long post and multi Qs - Just joined and need to get all my Qs out before I forget why I joined by morning or something :help:

.. someone threw rocks at my car, the paint was removed in some parts and the rest is very badly scratched. I know the removed parts have to be worked on but does anyone know what could be good for removing the scratches, it completely went through the clear coat, I was wondering if I should clay bar or polish it? Or would that just make a bad situation worse?

Thanks so much for any tips! If you recommend products can you give me a name that I can hunt down? Thanks again!

..might as well ask on the same thread - also there was gum thrown at my window and I got it off with glass stripper but it did melt down into my window from the sun and juices - and now my window jams and will not auto go up :wall ...what is good for cleaning the inside..will i haveto remove the door panel?

....ok last one for now....is there a wheel cleaner that can keep the wheels clean - like maybe teflon coated or what not because my brake dust is NUTS - i do not have this patience to clean it every week or whatever :work:

Nothing much you can do short of a repaint/touch up paint on the scratches that went through the clear coat. Meguiars Scratch-x could take care of the mild scratches with some passion, but if you can feel the scratches with you finger nail then it would need more than that..

All the teflon stuff is BS.. Clean them up good and put a wax of your choice on them given that they are painted or cleared..

What part of So. FL? I live in Boca all winter.

1. You're pretty out of luck on that one... a professional repaint will be necessary if you want to get it perfect. If "good enough" is good enough, you can touch up paint the affected areas and wetsand/langka them smooth. Wetsanding is not for the faint of heart... look into the Langka system.

2. Man do you have a**holes for neighbors or what? First rocks and then gum... Getting this off will be a pain... you will have to take the outside window moldings off at least, if not the door panel and removing the glass. Try to freeze the gum with a canned air duster turned upside down and knock it off with a razor blade on the glass and a fingernail on the plastic/painted areas.

3. Keeping wheels clean is a constant struggle... Detailer's Pride and Poorboy's make specific wheel sealants, but there are high-powered cleaners for all types of wheels. Megiuar's wheel brightener will melt anything off of painted wheels, and S100 polishing soap makes quick work of aluminum rims. You can clean all 4 wheels with either of these in 5 minutes or so. I would use a cleaner every 4 washes or so, and keep them sealed in between.

Thanks so much! Sounds awesome blue libby - esp the wax idea on the wheels - I just have to be careful not to dirty up my supply. This morning I loaded the scratches with wax compound to see if they fill..yeah before I checked this thread. I am going to try to tone down the obnoxiously obvious off color fill that was applied to two of the big scrapings. I am going to try the scratchX and elbow grease though!

The gum seems like a pain – to do Timmah L

as does wet sanding,

To answer where I live ….and if I have *** holes for neighbors – I live in Miami, the rocks were thrown when my dad was driving the car from a service job from Brahman and turning onto 1-95 southbound. The kids were throwing rocks at all the cars basically coming out of the stealership in the morning and nailed a jaguar few cars behind him as well. Being on an onramp the cars were sitting ducks and the kids were able to run away. This isn’t the first time though; the kids in this city need a good spanking because they also stoned my Camry when I was in college, a few years back. When I confronted their mom she called me a lying 6!tch, so the parents are not much better. I keep my car in parking garages only now, even at work and school, worth the extra $ to make sure it is there when I get done with a shift.

The gum was stuck on my car in midtown shopping area. I am also assuming by a child.

Off to try the scratch X and the wheel brightner!

It being sunday morning and that oxy clean guy is on TV selling mystical car wash stuff that sprays with a batteru..so tempted
