Rock chips galore!

I'll add some pics tonight but here's the gist- I have a 16 year old car with 135k miles on her and she looks every one of them. I just got into this detailing thing and I am pretty sure I should retouch those chips before I wax/seal her, right? My questions are these:

1- Does it make any sense to do any waxing/polishing before those chips are filled?

2- with the number of rock chips I've found (I'll post pics but I counted at least 20) does it make sense to touch them up or should I just wait until I can afford a complete re-paint of the front end?:nixweiss

Thoughts from the experts would be appreciated as I'm still very much a detailing noob.

I detailed my girlfriends 05 explorer and after i polished it with ultimate compound and M80, it looked fabulous, but it also brought out all the imperfections (ie..rock chips). I have no experience in wetsanding but would lie to learn.

Someone told me that I can fill them in with touchup paint, let it cure for a good 2 solid weeks to make sure it is rock hard, then wet sand down the areas and repolish those areas and then seal it.

Im sure there are more steps involved with it but that is the general idea.

Anybody can wet sand, its getting those scratches out that you put in from sanding that is tough to do.
