Ripped off on shipping? Thoughts?

My solution hose on my Mytee HP60 extractor was leaking. Not the long hose, but the one that goes on the vac head. About 7.5 inches long. The thickness of it is 1/8 inch.

That pic is what arrived today via UPS GROUND. It's the right one.

Now, I look at the invoice and was shocked at what they charged for shipping! Now let me say this first. When I called them to order, they didn't do over the phone orders. They emailed me a credit card authorization form to fill out and fax back in. (with the part number, price, quantity, etc....) I asked about shipping and they said it will be calculated and added to the payment. I thought to myself, how much COULD it really be to ship a small hose that will fit in a small envelope. I mean, the part was only 9 bucks.

Well, they charged me the $9 for the part and $22 for friggen shipping!
You bet I called them to express my concern on why shipping was so expensive for such a small part in a small envelope that too 5 days to get here from California.... She said she would have to get back to me later, which of course, I never heard back from....

So buyer beware. Mytee won't give you a shipping quote, and if you order, be prepared for a high bill...

Alot of companies price there shipping based on item price or an average instead of the actual shipping cost. However, if they are basing it off price then you were hosed - couldn't resist.

Also this is how alot of companies make there money on Ebay cost of item is cheap and then hick up the shipping.

Just got off the phone...
Here is the break down I was given.
$9 Part
$7 Handling
$15 Shipping

Still too much for that little thing..... Guess I know if I need a part from Mytee, to shop around....

I won't say too much ( :D ), but that is ridiculous.
Don't hold back now...don't want you to bite off your tongue. :D

Man they must be paying their warehouse personnel a sweet hourly wage. Could it have taken a whole 10 minutes of someone's time. They need to perform some due diligence in sourcing their shipping supplies since I can't imagine that $15 was incurred from the shipper.

Both the handling and the shipping cost are a load. The handling because you should build crap like that into the price of the product. As already mentioned, it might have took someone five minutes to pull it off the shelf, put it in the envelope, and slap an address label on it. The shipping because there's no way in Hades that's even a fair price to ship something over a five day period.

I know sometimes you get bent over and have to buy something online/phone/catalog/etc.

And I ordered all this from ADS:

Over 8 gallons of product, bottles, sprayers, few 32 oz bottles of Menzerna....
$0 for shipping UPS ground. (granted, the price of the products usually are high enough to cover shipping) But still. For that small of a part....

I just ordered 8 quarts of Amsoil Severe Gear, and the shipping was only 9.85 for a 18 pound case (per the UPS Quantum View) from Florida.

Tex
did you ask what shipping was going to cost?

No, I didn't. They said it will be calculated and added to the part total. I didn't worry because I knew it was a small part and would be fairly inexpensive to ship. Low and behold, it wasn't. Good thing I didn't have to order an extractor! The shipping would probably be just as much as the machine itself....

Have you called the company and asked about it?

I agree that's a lot for that tiny little hose:D
