Lost another great one today. RIP Anthony Bourdain.

Very sad, he must have had a lot of demons. Was watching the show last night. Really enjoying it and the diverse places he`s visited.

Tom P he battled with addiction for a lot of his life. He was pretty open about it. If you ever have q chance read his book "kitchen confidential" it`s all about the restaurant industries "dark" side.

Yeah, he talked about his issues on plenty of episodes. And he was open about it.

I`ll look for that book.

Yeah, what the hell...I`d fallen out of the habit of watching his shows, but enjoyed them when I did. It`s been some time, but what I think I took away from his explorations was a feeling of our shared humanity, how we`re all more alike than different...a feeling that is sadly missing from most of our discourse today.
 
Huh, seems like there`s a lot of suicide by hanging lately...

Didn`t know a thing about Bourdain, but that`s a [crappy] way to go IMO.

Definitely a crummy way to punch out. And its always who youd never expect. A Chef i worked for, a CMC on top of the world, committed suicide a couple years ago. Really tough to see someone you idolized go like that.

That was/is a great book. Whole little crazy subset of society going on behind restaurant kitchen doors. Nutty world.

Aside from the old PBS warhorse`s like Julia Childs and that creepy Frugal Gourmet, wasn`t Bourdain one of the first `Celebrity Chefs`?

Interesting life, that`s for sure...guy shot from the hip w no apologies.

As an addictions therapist, I believe that he never recovered. He continued to use alcohol and made drinking an integral part of his show to the degree of romancing drinking. Most schools of thought believe that only total abstinence is what works. I liked his show, but felt he was a poor example to those new to recovery. I think that his disease is what killed him. Alcohol is a drug.

While that`s a swell way to go, it`s not always in the cards. Plenty of good ways to go IMO, but also lots of terrible ones (been there watched that x many, no thanks). Dying is another of those things I want to do properly...as I define it.

Heh heh, I did used to shudder about what`ll befall my vehicles when I`m gone, but eh..decided that it doesn`t matter unless I care and I don`t have to. Contemplation of my mortality keeps stuff like Detailing in perspective.
