rim cleaning questions

I was using some citric based wheel cleaner "orange blast" (or somthing of that natur) and when the wheel dried the rim looked really dry as in ashy. After they completly dried I applied eagle one tire dressing to the tires and also did it to the wheel to give it shine. Today I went out and bought some Eagle one A2Z to see if that works better, anybody care to help me to help maintain my wheels well 'greased'? Also, would cleaning my ragtop with oxyclean be a good idea ? I haven't done it yet and probably won't do it but I was wondering since it does a great job on fabrics if it will do a good as a job on a ragtop.

ok, stop right there.

dont put tire dressing on your wheels any more.

what most likely hapened is the wheel cleaner slightly etched your rim's clear coat (im assuming they must be clearcoated). what you are going to want to do is try the eagle 1 A2Z and see if the shine comes back.

if not, you will need to use a paint polish on your wheels to get the shine back.

after that put a wax or sealant on the wheels and clean them with your car wash everytime you wash the car's paint

i would not use oxyclean on the top

The wheel cleaner I use most often is the same thing I use on the rest of the vehicle which is a good car wash detergent. Most OEM wheels on late model vehicles are painted and clearcoated, even if they look like they are alluminum or alloy bare finish, they are probably not. This is why I use the mildest cleaners I can on them. Occassionally they will get excessively dirty, and when that happens I use A2Z. A2Z works great on wheels and definitely will get them clean, however A2Z has an extremely high Ph. So when I use it, I spray, brush quickly, and rinse the stuff off completely. Don't leave any cleaners on any longer than completely necessary.
