RIGID - narrower hose = better suction?

My RIGID has the larger tubing for the hose (something like 1 7/8"). I've heard that the narrower tubings allow for better suction. Is it worth purchasing the narrowing adaptor and a new hose, or am I going over board?

I've tried smaller vacume hoses throughout the years and I never thought it helped. If you need a really long hose, the smaller hose is pretty much your only option. We had a long attachment hose for vans, semis and RVs.
