riddle help

I am an apprentice in an hvac union. My teacher this semester gave us a riddle that even with Google at the fingertips of 13 students, couldn`t get the answer yet!

The riddle goes: What is the difference between an orange?

Hint: the answer is not "ge"!

I also found some links to a philosopher named Jaques Derrida that had these sort of open/ unfinished questions. That was not the answer either!

Thanks for the help all!

All of those answers answer a completed question. difference between orange and something else. Good find though!

That is one of many Derrida bios I found! Which made me feel like a smarty pants in class til I got shot down!

......"Différance is a way of describing how a

word gets its meaning, including the words surrounding it in a

sentence, how the word is different from other words, and the ideas,

objects, people, etc. that are attached to the word. Thus, the

différance between an orange could be dependant on the objects

surrounding it, ",

This is exactly what I told him. However I did not say, that the answer is "anything".

Difference can also mean "remainder", like when used in math. So maybe there is no orange. Either way, orange MUST be defined. Is it a real orange or the idea of an orange? Honestly, we cannot prove the existence of the orange in question, because even if we were to see it, we would only have knowledge of our "perception" of the orange and not an absolute knowledge of the orange needed to presume an answer. I say we cannot know for sure the difference between an orange, because we cannot know if the orange exists outside of our minds. And since perception is subjective, the differences are infinite.

Dosen't make any sense to me... But here's an answer I found on the nets

"My father in law used to say that the difference between an orange was the faster, the much.

It took me 25 years to figure out what the hell he was talking about. Enjoy!"

Almost the topic of decrunstructivism theorized by Derrida. All about POV.

I am lost on that one. ha ha! I will work on that and plead for help later, ha ha !

Maybe it refers to the irrelevant, rhetorical questions we pose to make people know what we are talking about. For example, in a debate or argument.
