Reviving a Military Green Nissan Swirlfinder

Up for detail was a pretty filthy Nissan Pathfinder. The vehicle belonged to a classmate/co-worker of mine who has been meaning to get me over to clean the truck up.

The interior was done, but none of the pictures came out well.

Onto the exterior, it consisted of heavy swirl marks, oxidation, light scratching, and just a general filthy haze. My finals were:

-Optimum No Rinse
-Zaino Z18 Clay with S+W lube
-Meguiar's Wheel Brightener on wheels cut 3:1
-TOL's Tire Cleaner on tires/wells/trim cut 50/50

-Menzerna Powergloss via rotary and LC Cutting Pad @ 1700 rpm
-Menzerna Powergloss via rotary and LC Polishing Pad @ 1500 rpm
-Menzerna Final Polish II via rotary and LC Finishing Pad @ 1500 rpm
-Zaino Z5
-Zaino Z8

-Meguiar's All Season Dressing on tires/trim
-CG VRT cut 3:1 in wells

Sorry for the lighting, but the clouds moved in towards the end of the detail. The flash shot is over the hood and I took it for comparison purposes.

Another stellar looking detail!
The paint looks wet, and the wheels & tires look new again. :bow :bow

You have been a machine this spring!

Too bad about the rust spot, because the rest of it cleaned up pretty dam* nice! :wall

I haven't tried the Meg's dressing, but have been considering it as a low cost alternative for wells (but I'll continue using NL on mine). What cut do you use on tires, trim, wells? How does it compare to BnB or NL?

Thank you.

John: The Meguiar's ASD is full strength on the trim and tires. It soaks in pretty nice and a little goes a LONG way. I have done about 6 cars so far (tires and trim) and have used maybe 4 ounces.

For the wells, cut VRT 2.5:1. You will probably have to hit them twice to insure complete coverage, but the dressing soaks in really quick and lasts (Liz is on 5 days, still looks very good). It is a VERY cost friendly option.

p.s. - That last shot looks great!

You really make these 'dogs' look wayyy to easy to revive! They are HARD work.

Turned a grucky green car into Jade as far as I am concerned. Kind of like making a silk purse out of sow's ear.

I agree with mgm2003...to bad about the rust spot. For the owner I mean. The detail and your work were, as usual, wonderful!!

Thanks everyone :).

Regarding the rust; I've contemplated keeping some 400 grit in my car along with a bottle of flat black Rustoleum...It wouldn't look outstanding, but it would sure help the cancer.

That looks really good. Looks like you brought the color back to life. I have never seen a rust spot like that before on the chrome.
