...Besides Griot's, I've heard of a company that sells good brushes....I can almost remember the name...Braun maybe :nixweiss ....
The http://www.brush.com/]Braun Brush Company[/url] says they've been in business since 1875 and are still owned by the Braun family. (I think that's very cool, been meaning to try some of their products.)

PC.

I picked up 5 additional regular sized brushes at Advance for cheap, like $2-$3; I like using them around the edges of the season (Oct, Nov, March, Apr), when it's so cold I don't want to get wet.

My experience is that after about a year, I'd like a new bristle head.

I find that it's easy to clear grit from the brush by spraying the water directly into the bristles; then dip into the rinse bucket and agitate, then into the soap bucket.

I also changed handles to the handle from the SUV mop. So I use the brush with a nice 4 foot long handle!

Sorry to dig up a really old thread but...after reading all the threads on this brush, I picked it up at Big Lots for $10. It was dark when I got home so I didn't get to try it out.

I have a minivan so it's pretty tough to clean the roof without getting soaked. I've been using a chenille wash mp that I got from Walmart. The chenille mop is pretty soft but it's not that big and the handle isn't all that long. Plus there are always those worries about chenille getting harder over time...so far it's still pretty soft from a summer's worth of washing.

I also got the Meg's wash mop with the much longer handle. I think I can swap the two. I really Meg's would've used a standard threaded insert on the brush. I could then use my 10 foot extendable painter's pole. Oh well. I do have a foam gun so, just as I do with the chenille mop, I plan on laying down a really thick layer foam wherever I use either Meg's mop or brush.

I have one question...how do you rinse the brush out with a grit guard and bucket? The bristles are facing the side of the bucket. Therefore, you can't really brush the grit guard to loosen the grit. I'm thinking you just rinse it clean with the hose and use the bucket for soap.

Your thoughts?

Get a new wash bucket, something like this:

allows you to scrub the bristles, loosening dirt and debris.

The handle on the Meg's brush is removable (you can swap the different handles onto different brush heads), so you could remove the handle to brush it against the grit guard if you want.

I don't use those brushes very often, but when I do I typically rinse them with a hose before dipping them in the rinse bucket and swishing them around a bit. That is an extra step, but I like to make sure there isn't any dirt/grit hiding in the brush.

I still don't see how that allows you to scrub the bristles. As you put the brush head into the bucket, the ends of the bristles are facing the side of the bucket. It seems to me that the grit guard has to be hanging on the side of the bucket. Or am I missing something...which is possible since I haven't actually taken the brush out of the packaging.

I saw a bucket very similar to that (same shape) with a grit guard made by black magic at Big Lots yesterday. It was only 9.99. Anyway, I've used the Versa-Angle Wide Body Brush for awhile now, but my car never gets very dirty. I used it on a really dirty car the other day and now there's junk trapped in there that I can't rinse out. I just can't get it completely clean and am afraid to use it again.

Smart move, not using it when it's contaminated. Interesting that it won't come clean; not to get up on my usual soapbox :o but that's one of the things I like about my BHBs, even after doing the most awful undercarriages the BHBs rinse clean enough to use on anything.

Yeah, that's it. But looking over their site, I think I'd go with the one from Griot's.

I would not agree with that decision. I had the Griots brush. It rotted away after 6 months and the darn thing is expensive. I've had my Meguiar's brushes for a year and they are still going stong. The wheel face brush is ready to be replaced. I feel they are a great deal.

I've been able to fit my wide versa angle in the bucket, and it will touch the bottom of the bucket I posted a picture of (I use the telescoping handle from the Meguiars Wash Mop). You have to angle the handle a little bit, but the bristles will touch the grate even with the handle on. You could also detach the brush from the handle and then use your hand to wipe the brush against the grates. Clear enough for ya?

Whatever works best for somebody is the best thing for them :xyxthumbs

I consider my BHBs to be an expendable/renewable resource and I do go through (some of) them pretty fast. Not *nearly* that fast though, sounds like you got a bad one.

I've recently obtained ones from TOL (for wheels) and AutoGeek (for the bodywork) and they seem better-built than Griot's, but only time will tell.

But I still swear by the small ones from Griot's (pn 15520) ;)
