Review: Poorboys PwC and EX Sealant

I've had these for quite some time, but after spending some time with them again, I thought I should review them.



Product: Poorboys Polish with Carnauba

Manufacturer's Claim: "This is a non-abrasive polish containing 100% carnuba wax. It cleans and seals a paint's finish in one step. This is an excellent one-step product for paints in good condition. It works very well with orbital buffers.

Usage: I applied this with a polishing pad at speed 5 on the PC using light to moderate pressure.



Overall Thoughts and Notes: This product goes on easy and comes off easy. It has pretty good cleaning ability and can handle light oxidation well. It has limited ability with swirls, etc. It leaves behind a nice finish and makes a good base for a wax or sealant.



Complaints: None to speak of.

Manufacturer's Claim: An Amino Functional Resin with Carnuba. Use it post-polishing to ensure EXtra shine, EXtra protection and EXtra long-lasting beauty for your vehicles.



Usage: I applied this by hand using a cotton applicator (primed with distilled water)



Overall Thoughts and Notes: The product is a little thick, so getting a thin application took a little work. After 30-45 minutes, removal was nearly effortless. The finish was smooth, had moderate slickness, and a slight, warm glow. Previous testing shows roughly two months durability.



Complaints: More durability would be great.

Interesting, thanks for the review. Question... shouldn't you put on the sealant before using the carnuba stuff?

Typically you apply carnubas on top of sealants, but PB's polish w/carnuba doesn't have bonding issues with EX or EX-P.



Do a search of "PwC" and you'll see many successful applications of PwC and EX.
 
Nice review Zane - I have used EX on several cars now and finally comfortable in comment on it. On black I would say it was above average but nothing to really rave about, on red it look better and gains some depth over some other sealants I have used but doesn’t approach some of the waxes that I have tried. I will say on my silver blue (light almost baby blue) that doesn’t contain any metallic I would say it looks better than any sealant or wax I have used. Gives a nice shine that shows depth with nice reflections where most waxes mute the shine and most sealants give it a plastic look – EX gives kinda the best of both worlds.



Zane, have you tried Trade Secrets? I really think it the best on I have used on reds! Still using RMG/PS on black that you recommended here a while back....:2thumbs:

Interesting, I've always used a foam app for applying EX. What other apps have you tried for applying this product? Has cotton risen to be your preferred tool for this, or was that just what your hand wound up pulling out of the pile? :)

This is roughly what I've experienced, perhaps a few weeks shy, but curious for a point of reference as to the conditions under which you experienced this? (ie. garage kept our outside)



My experience does parallel yours regarding the ease of use of both products. I did experience some dusting on an earlier version of PwC, but Steve provided me with a replacement and dusting was reduced fairly significantly on the second bottle.

I've used cotton and foam. I just happen to have a stock of cotton right now. Durability is based on an "average" vehicle - some garage time and some outside time.
 
One of the best attributes of both products for me is their ease of use in the full sun...and I mean on 100 degree days on black cars. :)

I experienced this also when applying by hand ... now I apply EX with a finishing pad and PC and it helps to apply a thin, even coating. This stuff spreads like butter by machine, and buffs off really easily when applied thin.
 
Zane, is the EX the "newer" EX+, or the old EX? I don't know if you have already washed the car, but what are your impressions about slickness and look AFTER the first wash? I have an almost full bottle of the "older" EX, and I love the look but hate the durability.... or lack of.
