I decided to try a wheel cleaner that was for sale for $.99 at wal-mart. It is turtle waxes F21 wheel cleaner.
I also chose to try out the EZ-Detail Brush available at properautocare.com/EZdetail, $19.99 For motorcycles and engine detailing
and the OXO wheel brush from Adamspolishes.com, $9.95
and Granitize I-10 shape up dressing from Granitize.com $19.95/gallon
"An economical water base interior or exterior dressing. Contains penetrating agents. Provides a nice satin finish. Can be used on vinyl, rubber, leather and plastic."
These are the lables
Tire cleaner goin to work
OXO scrubbing
EZ detail brush cleaning inside of wheels
Wheel after
Granitize I-10 on right and Adams V.R.T on left for comparison
Conclusion,
the turtle wax tire cleaner- seemed to brake up the brake dust pretty quickly, but it took almost a whole bottle to saturate all the wheels to be able to clean them. I used as the directions stated which was to spray and let dwell for a few seconds and hose off. I felt that when I sprayed the wheel with water before scrubbing after I sprayed them with Wheel cleaner the cleaner lathered better and was easier to spread with the OXO brush. Rating on cleaning 5/10, on price per use 2/10 (given that it was only $1.00 you could go either way)-Rather solventy smell-suggest mask
OXO wheels brush-Brush is very sturdy and well made. It is a bit heavy and the handle is thick making it uncomforatable to handle. The bristles are very soft, but they recoil quickly and fling product up at you very easily. Soft and nice construction, but the thickness and memory bristles make it dangerous and uncomforatable. overall 4/10
The EZ Detail brush was made for motorcycles to get all the nooks and crannys of the engine. The bristles claim to be scratch free but seem very stiff and hard. It was great for cleaning the inner wheel, but same as the OXO the recoil of the bristles made it dangerous if using a harsh cleaner (eye protection reccomended). I mean I was covered head to toe with black dots! IT was still a great tool, but messy. overall 6/10 minus the mess
The Granitize I-10 is my wheel well dressing of choice so I decided to use it on my tires. I applied by sraying a EO tire swipe and wiping the wheel. The prodcut streaks alot and does not dry quickly. It took 2-3 applications a tire to make a nice uniform shine. I would say the shine is close to BnB, shiney but not greasy. I prefer the look of Adams V.R.T better. I would not use I-10 on tires but is great for wells for the price effectiveness. overall 5/10 but I would use it only on wells. -Great Vanilla scent-
