Review: Meguiar's Wheel Brightener

There are several chemicals people work with every day that are worse than WB. I'd say the onset of back pain induced from having to bend over and scrub your wheels with a weaker cleaner would be a worse ailment than handling WB... Well that was a bit of an exaggeration, but I'd still rather lighten the load on one of my less-favorite detailing steps.
 
Jeez........when I think of all the stuff we all use to do growing up in the 60's, it would cause the federal department of the nanny state to pass out. But, still here!



WB is ok, wear gloves, eye protection and don't sit around and inhale the vapors and you'll be fine.
 
The Audi's rims could use some strong stuff, but I also think they're painted- they're mostly trashed to begin with, but I'd rather not destroy what's left.

Bad idea to use some WB?

I love this stuff as it works perfectly for incredibly caked/neglected wheels. As Junebug mentioned, just be smart and careful when applying and what you are applying to - wear gloves and a mask (I have bad allergies so I use a high-particulate paper filter mask).

You should be fine with that; if you're at all nervous just use a slightly weaker dilution (8:1 or 10:1 as opposed to the usual 4:1 they recommend) and don't let it dwell for a long time. It's still plenty effective at those ratios.

Thanks, I've seen it used on aluminum/coated aluminum wheels just not painted ones.

I've done it many many times. And besides, "coated aluminum" wheels are painted wheels for the most part -- the coating is just clear-coat paint. ;)
 
Don't use WB as it will get under the damaged areas and lift the cc. Same goes for chrome wheels.

If you use the correct personal protection equipment (PPE), the recommended dilution ratio ((1:4-pH 4.5, as recommended by Meguiar's)and the product is disposed of legally it should be OK...but there are better and safer products out there that don’t require these health safeguards (IronX)
