Review, Comparison And Testing: Carpro PERL and Ultima Tire And Trim Guard Plus

I've never experienced the dust-attraction thing with UTTG+ but that was with the original formula. I just did a *LOT* of stuff on the '93 Audi with the newer version and it'll be interesting (to put it nicely) to see if it becomes an issue.

Perl lasts a few weeks on my old Ford plastic trim. Unless we get a heavy downpour for a few hours.

Shawn, do you consider this to be good or bad? I'm curious. I guess I don't really have plastic trim to coat on our cars apart from the grilles and I use dlux on those areas. I suspect finding something that can withstand rain, etc. is probably a challenge.

I own PERL. I've used it on tires, which is why I purchased it, and on the plastic engine covers.

I agree with your conclusion as well Marc. Good review.

Thanks a lot Shawn!!! Glad you liked it.

Thanks for the review, wonder how Perl compares to Wolfgang trim sealant Hum you have me thinking.....

You're very welcome. If you ever decide to compare it against WG trim sealant, I'd love to hear the results!

I love CarPro products and have most of them, I'm definitely getting some of this stuff soon, awesome review Marc :bigups

Thank you so much, Mp0wer! You won't regret buying PERL.

Marc, another stellar write up! I luv it! Great fotos and diagrams !!

Thanks a lot, Tom!

I did my dads equinox with it as a protective step. I definitely noticed the dust sticking to it more and even the upgp as well. Compared to different polish and nothing on the trim it seemed grabby to dust. It wouldnt blow off when driven either. We'll see how it does after this first wash thursday. But if it continues to be a lint trap i dont think he will be very happy. It did do a good job of hiding the old white wax oops's in the trim and license plate holders though. I dont think he wants to reapply after every rain though so perl doesnt really seem like a winner either. Any other ideas for grey trim that just needs protection?

edb- Thanks for the info on how the UTTG+/dust is going on your dad's car.

I'm wondering if my usual wipedown of the trim with ValuGard's Fast Finish will mitigate the dust issue. Would've been nice if the UTTG+ had made that unnecessary, but then it's not much worse than wiping stuff dry (which *is* a bit worse than merely blowing it dry, but OK..).

Here`s a 10 month update. There`s really not much rain here in Phoenix so please keep that in mind.

This update is just for the cowl area.

As you can see, there`s still some dressing left from both products and you can clearly see the difference between the treated vs untreated areas. I was amazed at how much dressing is left that`s why I wanted to post an update. Also, the UTTG side is darker than the PERL side. There`s still some PERL left but you can definitely notice that it`s 50% gone or more. On the other hand, the UTTG side is still going strong. I also did see PERL leave some kind of white residue on trim.

Yes, UTTG was a PITA to apply and felt extremely sticky. I`d say you use more product than typical dressings. And it doesn`t produce a lot of shine when initially applied. But boy oh boy does it last. So if you want a very long lasting dressing on PLASTIC TRIM, I`d highly recommend UTTG. But for tires, I`d recommend PERL.

thx Marc, I`m gonna try UTTG next.
PERL definitely leaves a white residue.
It was all over my Explorer plastic.
But I did read that it should be diluted.
Haven`t tried that yet. I`ve been using it on tires now.
