Review: CarPro CeriGlass

Since it fall in New England and I’ve found myself unemployed I thought this would be a great time to start some prepping for winter. That said, the windshield is the original so that makes it almost 14 years old.

The glass is typical factory and after 13 hard New England winters it exhibits all the tell-tale chips, pits, spots, and minor scratches you'd expect.

Carpro CeriGlass comes in 2 sizes, 150ml or 500ml and is available in kit form. The 150ml bottle is a convenient size and squeezable making dispancing the product accurate and easy.

CeriGlass contains no strong dissolving agents, which can damage your skin. CeriGlass is a mild abrasive polish proven to work on glass without distortion. It can also be used to clean and brighten chrome and other metals and to polish hard plastics.

Size - 150ml

CarPro CeriGlass is specifically formulated for glass and contains Cerium Oxide, a special compound specifically for polishing glass. According to CarPro, CeriGlass will remove stains, hard water spotting, scales, road film, and stains.

A nice feature of CeriGlass is t can be used with a machine or by hand. By machine CeriGlass can be applied with either a rotary or dual action polisher so there’s a lot of flexibility built in to this product.

Because I like rotary machines I decided to my Flex PE14-2-150. This rotary is a bit smaller and lighter than my Makita 9227 and I thought it would be better suited especially at an arm’s length.

Carpro CeriGlass is a white creamy product, similar to what you see when using a paint polish. Apply it directly to the pad, place on the glass, then switch on the machine.

CarPro also recommends using this product with a glass buffing pad but the only pads I had on hand were the 3” glass pads by Griot’s…

I taped the plastic trim to protect it against accidental contact with the rotating pad. While this was a great idea I should have anticipated slinging and as you can see I wasn't disappointed. Next time I'll cover those area's I want to keep sling free.

I worked CeriGlass in a crisscross pattern and on speed setting 3.5. I felt this was an optimum speed as my arms speed was intentionally slow wanting to give both the product and pad time to work. When the product seems to be thickening a squirt if clean water is all that's needed to get things working again.

While CeriGlass is messy but it's also water based so it's very easy to clean up with regular soap and water. I mixed up a bucket of regular car wash and with a soft foam wash pad everything cleaned up easily and completely.

Once everything was washed and rinsed I dried the area using my electric leaf blower. Without rewashing it with a dedicated glass cleaner and waffle weave towel I could easily see how clear the glass had become.

Conclusion

CarPro CeriGlass is a great product for removing small defects, stains, water spots, and road film. It's easy to use by had or with either a rotary or dual action polisher. There are no special skills or precautions to be concerned with and my results were spectacular.

Pros: Easy to use, works very well, water soluble, removes stubborn spotting and stains.

Cons: Not for use on paint. Messy but as long as you plan for this it's really not an issue....

Great review Bobby.

I have been looking into CeriGlass for my own cars and just last week was asked to do a few others as well. So this helps out a lot.

Great review. The "Inside looking out" picture looks amazing. Bobby - How does the Ceriglass compare to G4?

I don't really know because I haven't tried it.

CeriGlass was so easy to work with and like all the products from the folks at CarPro it worked amazingly well. I'll be working on a 2013 Hyundai Elantra Limited today who's windshield is somewhat hazy and this will correct the problem, I guarantee it!

Side Note:

I did apply the Gtechnig Clear Vision Smart Glass after I wrote this article...

No problem. The Ceriglass is a little cheaper than G4. I am still amazed of the clarity on the windshield.

Thanks for the review. Did you see any clarity issues at night due to the poliishing? I am sure it cleaned it great but wondered about blurring.

Hi Al,

I haven't driven it at night yet but was wondering because of using a rotary instead of a dual action machine if I'd notice anything.

Time will tell Al. I have to drive down to New Jersey for a few days next week so I'll have plenty of time to tell...

Great and thorough review Bobby. You are GOING TO LOVE G1!!!

Thanks Todd!

After supper last night I decided what better time to give Gtechniq G1 a test drive.

Not that the glass wasn't clean but before applying G1 I completely cleaned the windshield with Meguiar's Glass Cleaner. It took only a minute or two to ensure it was ready for the application.

Gtechniq G1

Gtechniq G1 Clear Vision looks like two part system but it's really a the G1 sealant and G2 is nothing more than a haze cleaner that's used afterwards.

Application of Gtechniq G1 is straight forward. The product is clear and requires no shaking. Wearing Nitrite gloves is a good idea!

  1. On one makeup pad, tip the mouth of the plastic bottle against it 3 times in separate spots.
  2. Starting from the center of the windshield, wipe with overlapping strokes to ensure complete coverage. Continue with this process until complete coverage is achieved. I don't think the application pattern is all that important but ensuring complete coverage is paramount to both clarity and durability.
  3. The directions says to apply 3 coats to the windshield so not wanting to disappoint, I did just that.
  4. G1 dries to a haze very quickly!
  5. I let the Gtechniq G1 sealant cure for about 15 minutes then used the G2 product to dissolve and remove the haze. Once complete I buffed the glass with a cotton towel and now I enjoy crystal clear visibility..
I was out for a drive this morning and it was raining. As the drops of rain hit the windshield they very quickly beaded and slid right off. I only had to drive for about 4 miles and never used the wipers once....:bigups

I be interested in hearing if you got any correction as well. My truck windshield is almost 10 years old, its seen better days and would like to clear up the scratches a little.

Correcting glass is messy work. Glass is sooooooo hard that it often requires heavy pressure and high speeds.
