Review: 3D AAT Rubbing Compound and Finishing Polish

David, what speed does 3D suggest (for the rotary)?

3Ds website says 1200-2000 rpm, but Ive had great results using lower speeds (600-1500) even on really hard clears.

WHOA. And thats just ONLY the compound. WOW. Well, Vega, you know what Ive ordered recently, so you should have some idea as to what im intending ;)

Now, I just need to learn the rotary (so I keep saying..but Im still "learning" the DA)

Thanks for the post. Good to know I can go as low as 600-1500. :bigups

What setup are you running? I like the Hydro Tech or Hybrid pads with a rotary extension.

Im currently playing with the MT300. Will be trying (hoping) the Hydro Techs (that I just received) on that machine this weekend.

I have a rotary extension. haha.. Just need to get a rotary. (and yes, Im eyeballing the PE-14. Still crunching the figures, as Im getting married at the end of May)  :wall

This is all GREAT info ! Makes me excited to try the 501 again with several changes to my procedures and methods.
I was using the PE-8 and kicked up to 3 after first pass, I forget that rotary starts out fast fast. Probably baked the 501 onto the paint.
Ill use less product, slower speed & arm movement, once up/down side/side then done, wipe off. No trying to work it in.
If it flashes Im done.. Magic ! Cant wait ! ;)

Overworking it was a mistake I made the first time I used it. But once I figured out I was getting perfect results in 2 passes, I fell in love.

would you recommend 3d 501 compound over megs m101? i havent used m101 yet because its only available in that large 32oz. i have used m105 and it was fairly tough to work with compared to 3d 501.

i dont compound often on paint but i do regularly on headlamps. 3d 501 works miracles with MF pad on a rupes mini.

Definitely the 2 best heavy cut compounds I have used but, yes, AAT Compound is da bomb. Never thought Id type that... for many reasons.

FWIW - M101 is much, much better than M105 in most ways. I only use M105 on headlights and door handle cups anymore - and only because I have it. Always had to mix with something else.
