results from PC with Poorboys and Clearkote

I tried out some of the Poorboys and Clearkote products on my black 03 Cobra. The car has not been waxed since September 04 and was in need of a detail.



Here is what I used and the order:



1. washed with Clearkote Car Wash

2. clayed with Mothers Clay Bar and lubricant (Bought it a year ago and never used it)

3. clayed with Wolfgang Clay Bar and lubicant

4. washed with Clearkote Car Wash

5. Poorboys SSR2.5 with Orange Cutting Pad from SMP with PC on 5/6

6. Clearkote Red Moose Machine Glaze with White Polishing Pad from SMP with PC on 4

7. Clearkote Carnauba Moose Wax with Black Finishing pad from SMP with PC on 1/2

8. S100 Paste Wax by hand on the roof only (just to try it out)

9. shined tires/trim

10. wiped off wheel and exhaust tips

11. cleaned windows



Other supplies used:

Porter Cable 7424

Cobra Waffle Weave Drying Towels

Viper Microfiber Towels

2 Wool Wash mits

This was my second time using the PC and I was happy with the results. I was running short on time and did not get to use SSR1 with a polishing pad after SSR2.5/before the RMG. I think that may give even better results next time. I still have some minor scratches and a few swirls but they are very hard to find. The car is a lot easier to wash, dry, and maintain now. The reason for claying twice was that the Mothers kit was something I bought over a year ago and never used. I did not think it worked that well and I had recently purchased the Wolfgang clay/lube which gave better results.



I would like to also get some suggestions on using the PC with the SSR2.5/SSR1, RMG, and CMW. Speeds, pads, length of time working product, length of time before removing, etc.

Just one question, why did you use Mother's clay then WG clay??
 
Your swirls looked pretty minimal to begin with. Why didn't you start with SSR 1? Just curious, and very nice results. Great depth.
 
Thanks for the comments. My car has never looked better. It is a daily driver and was in need of a full detail. I am ashamed that I let it go all winter without any wax. The last wax was applied in Sept. by the sales manager of the dealership I purchased it from. He drove the car home at night and hated to see it go.



JohnnyDaJackal - The reason for claying twice was that the Mothers kit was something I bought over a year ago and never used. After claying the whole car I did not think it removed as much as it should have. I recently purchased the Wolfgang clay and lube, so I decided to try it as well. The Wolfgang clay removed what the Mothers clay did not.



Tasty - The reason for using the SSR 2.5 was to remove some scratches on other areas of the car. I thought the swirls were pretty severe, but I guess they were not too bad. I am also still learning when and why to use each product. Next time I may try the SSR 1 with a polishing pad first. If that takes care of the swirls I will move on to the RMG.
 
atticdog - I topped the CMW with the S100 on the roof. I could not really tell a difference. I just wanted to try out the S100 on atleast one panel. I ordered some Mequiars #16 to try out as well.



I have to say that this site is addicting. I have always tried to keep my vehicles clean, but now I am taking it a step further.

I think you will be fine going straight from 2.5 to RMG. I haven't noticed any hazing to speak of if you work 2.5 until it clears.



You might want to try out either #80 or Optimum if you want a good 'maintenance' polish that will remove light defects without being too aggressive. If you have SSR1, that would probably work well too.
 
Thanks for all of the compliments. It was my first time using these products and only my second time using the pc and I was shocked at how it came out. The SSR/RMG/CMW combo makes black look amazing.



Next car to try it on is my moms 04 Black Corvette. I think it may just need Clay, SSR1, RMG, and CMW. I will post pic of it and my cobra together when I get done.

in my experience with SSR 2.5 and SSR 1, i would only use the SSR 1 if the SSR 2.5 left some light hazing behind. and this would happen using SSR 2.5 with a cutting pad to get rid of some major swirls. the swirls you show in your picture, you might have been able to use SSR 2.5 with a polishing pad. oh well, with experience, you'll be able to judge what pad to use.



with SSR 2.5 and SSR 1, i would start off at a speed of 4, go over the area i'm polishing a few times, then go up to a speed of 5, again going over the area until the SSR disappears and then wipe it off (this works for me. your experience may differ, and you'll probably have to try different ways to see what works best for you.) as far as pads go, with SSR 2.5, it depends on what you are trying to polish out, but it would either be a polishing or cutting pad. i'd recommend starting off with a polishing pad as that is the less aggressive pad. with SSR 1, i only use it with a polishing pad.



with RMG, i like using a finishing pad, speed about 4, go over a section (like half the hood), and immediately wipe off.



i haven't used the Moose wax, so i'd suggest following the instructions on the bottle.
