Last year I read some impressive things about a product called Crystal Glow. There was a gentlmen in Toronto, Ontario that was saying how good it was at protecting and shinning his car. I thought this year I would try it as I like to try different things.

Well I just got thought doing two passes on my car and I must say I am not in the least impressed. The shine that it leaves has no luster.... I looks so flat. Not impressed at all.

Below is a pic of what the pad looked like after I did one pass.... A little scary if you ask me.

Can anyone tell me why the pad is so covered in my paint.... I can't figure out why this would be. I have the pad soaking right not but I think it will be a write off.

The pads are red because you have a single stage paint job and the product you are using has either chemical or abrasive properties.
 
It means the paint is pigmented right down to the primer. There is "clear coat" and "single stage" paint. Clear coat is basically 2 layers of paint, the one next to the primer is colored. The top layer is clear, kind of like a varnish. If color comes off when using a polish, you have single stage. S100 wax doesn't have a polish in it, so it won't remove color (paint). The Crystal-Glo is labelled as "non-abrasive" and "wipe on wipe off" so it must use chemical cleaners to "polish" the paint.

I've used it, and it is in fact a very mild cleaner. It won't touch swirls. It did, however, last a fairly long time (beading). It's listed as an acrylic coating, so it may last similar to Klasse AIO/SG, but I haven't used either of the twins, so I can't say for sure.
 
I'm wondering then... Can I use Crystal Glow as a final layer. My usual process is



1) Meguires Medallion Premium Paint Cleaner

2) S100 Cleanser

3) S100 Paste Wax



I am wondering if it would provide that protective layer longer.
 
Crystal-Glo is intended to be the final layer. With the products you've listed, I'd go with MPPC, then the Crystal-Glo, as I think the MPPC is a stronger cleaner than the CG. I think the Crystal-Glo would likely take some of the S100 cleanser off. You could probably top it with S100 wax for a better look. The S100 won't last as long as the CG. If you put the S100 on first, the CG will likely take it off, thus not increasing your satisfaction in the job.
 
I was wondering, you said you have used MPPC and S100 cleanser, but seemed surprised when you got red paint on the pads with the Crystal-Glo. Didn't you get red pads from the other 2? I've used S100 cleanser on single stage red and even though the car wasn't really oxidized, the pads still ended up red.

Also, you said you did only one pass with the CG. I'm guessing that you may have had a little too much oxidation on the paint. The bottle of CG says repeat applications are needed for cars with more than mild oxidation.

Just wondering.
 
Yeah I do get some red on the pad from the other two but I see to remember is not being as much. Could be dreaming again... ;) The car has no oxidation really on it. The paint is in good condition. I was just trying CG because of some impressive claims but one individual. I tried it and didn't get the gloss. luster and shine I was looking for after 2 passes. I'll stick with old faithful for now. I really like the claims on the bottle but not if it sacrafices the look of the paint.
 
1. Definitely single stage paint otherwise you would have seen a clear coat failure which is very obvious.



2. What does one pass mean?



You probably didn't work the Crystal Glow long enough for it to polish out properly and give a high gloss finish. The hazing you are seeing is probably just the product working. It's removing the oxidation that was on the finish to begin with. Continue working the product at a speed of 5 - 5.5 for a couple of minutes until it begins to dry and see how it looks. A second coat might be required.



Then make your judgemtn as to whether it's a product you would like to continue with.



I personally haven't used it but too often, people hack on a product without applying it properly.



Remember, 95% of a good finish is technique and 5% product. Most product work pretty well. It's a matter of taste on the final look and ease of application that makes people decide on one or the other.
