Restoring rubber window trim?

I can see the pics now (on IPad). Yes that is EXACTLY what mine looked like. I believe it's a combination of the factory "coating" wearing away and some oxidation of the rubber causing it to look that way. IME you can clean it until your heart's content - but it will not fix that issue.

Yes, cleaning did nothing. But the Meguiars Paint Cleaner easily stripped the remainder of the coating off, and diminished the round blotch circles. Now after a dressing has been applied you can barely see them.
