residue from california car duster getting annoying.

There is no cure!
as many know, my car is black, with no metallic. plain, rich, BLACK!

so after a day of driving i get a light light layer of dust. i bought the california car duster about 2 months ago. first use was great. cleaned the dust and left it back to its just cleaned look. the second time i used it, i used it under garage lighting and i could notice that the duster was leaving a waxy residue. then the next day when it was full sun out, i could see the residue clearly.

so because of that i started using it as a dedicated cleaner prior to spray and wipe. worked well, and i figured if i could get it dirty enough the residue would be significantly less. well the duster is now very dirty. i used it on my car right now and i still get smears of waxy residue.

will this ever diminish, get better, ect?

are there any other dusters that perform the same without the residue. i.e: rubbermaid car duster that can be found at target.
 
I've got one, I put it on top of a cardboard box for the first couple of days, the excess waxiness was absorbed into the cardboard and it seems to work well to get rid of the residue.

What he said or wrap in some newspaper for a few days. Changing out the newspaper once.
 
Ya, I get the same thing. Mine is a year and a half old. When I first got the CD I let it sit for a week on newspapers. Even now I see the parafin marks from the fibers of the CD. Never thought anything of it. Just get out my detail spray and take care of the problem.

I know I am instilling marks on my car but I love the shine. You know....immediate gratification...shiny car.
 
Joy, my truck is also black and have had my duster for more than 2 years and it still leaves streaking. I have found that if i use it when the paint is colder AKA in the early morning the residue is less, not gone but less. If i use the duster when the paint is even semi warm the smearing is bad. I also wrapped mine in news paper when i first got it as the directions stated.
 
ok you have some residue and streaking but do you believe it's still a good product and do you use it often. i bought one because of the good feedback on another thread. but i'm not sure how long i'm gonna use it if streaking is a problem.
 
I still use it every morning, I feel that it is a great product, If it wasnt for this duster I woudl have a very dusty truck every day! This saves me alot of time, also as I said I get less when its cooler out and if i can see it ai will use QD really quick to remove it.
 
that's the reason I never got one. Paraffin wax on a sealant coated only surface don't sound good to me.
If it was waxed only, it might not be so bad.
 
the directions state to apply to a cool dry surface. i received my duster the other day and used it right out of the package i loved it, i'll have to wait until the summer and see if there will be any problems with streaking due to the heat. over all i'm happy with my purchase.

Good point, and one I had never considered. Since my vehicles would get washed before new sealant was applied, I think any CCD residue would be removed, but.....
Anyway, I think I will probably continuse to use mine.:)

It takes a little time for the parafin (sp) wax to stop seeping from the threads of the CCD.

I've had mine since 1994. Never been washed. I just shake it out thoroughly before and after each use. Still works great, picking up dust, not just smearing it around.

It probably took 6 months of regular use for the wax to stop appearing.

It never bothered me too much. A quick QD wipe and it's gone.

BTW, my Cal Duster is no longer red. It's dark gray!

Had my duster for prob. about 5 years now and like mentioned before it's now gray instead of red, but the streaking has never been a prob. for me if you follow the directions it should have very minimal streaking if any.

Just wondering...if you're gonna QD, then why dust in the first place?
