Replacement parts

Hey Autopia. I know there are probably "better" places to talk parts, but I know some of you have experience in this regard.

I'm looking to replace the pads (and probably the rotors) on my girlfriend's 1995 Accord. I know the way they have the hub/brake setup on this generation means it's far more complicated than a simple remove wheel/compress caliper/remove caliper/replace parts job, so I'll likely be taking it somewhere.

The issue is the parts themselves. Does anyone here have a recommendation for purchasing parts? Any great experiences with online retailers? I don't need a set of Brembo calipers and high-dollar composite pads, but at the same time I don't want junk.

Any recommendations are welcome and helpful. Thanks!

sorry but why is it so different then a regular brake job?

check out Tirerack.com

and the store brand rotors from Auto Zone are good

I recently replaced the pads on my moms TL and gf's crv. I bought them from:

eBay My World - dchautoparts

they had great service and prices. I then had a local place install them and resurface the rotors for $65. I decided to go OEM because brakes is something you don't want to skimp out on and end up have an unsafe car.

I could not agree more..

SO..... why not use parts that work better and cost less & dust less then OEM?

I also have enjoyed shopping at Rock Auto. I put Akebono ProAct ceramics all around on my friend Jr's Sonata, and she said it was like a different car with the stopping power :nixweiss  and we have both been impressed with the low dusting.

You suggested tire rack:

Brakes Products for Honda Accord Sedan DX 4cyl 2005

Cheapest pads there are $50 + shipping etc

OEM is only $40 plus shipping:

eBay Motors: 03 04 05 06 07 ACCORD GENUINE HONDA FRONT BRAKE PADS (item 120331695195 end time Nov-19-08 19:56:41 PST)

And I am basing this off of pure speculation, but Honda Pads>"Satisfied Pro"

I have been fairly happy with Honda OEM Pads. And while I was placing the order I ended up picking up several other things such as wiper blade refills, engine air filters etc for my 06 Si at about half of my local dealers charge.

As for rotors, I can't help you there, I haven't shopped for them before. I would make sure the current rotors are beyond resurfacing ability though

I read somewhere that this gen Accord has an "over-rotor hub" or something along those lines. But reading through the free manuals for it online I see it's nothing major.

I guess since everyone is praising Tire Rack I will also put in mine. Like rjstaaf, I have bought plenty of tires there over the years and even half of the Akebonos I mentioned in my earlier post.

I'm pretty sure Honda OEM pads are Akebono's. I know for a fact that Raybestos makes the AcDelco pads.

I recently installed some Wagner ThermoQuiets on my 1998 Aurora and I couldn't be happier. They are a low-dust pads and they have decent grip.

I was trying to find out who makes the honda pads earlier but I couldn't find it anywhere. I did just see this though:

Akebono: OEM Products and Services

"Akebono's OEM customers include: General Motors, Ford Motor Company, DaimlerChrysler, Honda, Toyota, Mitsubishi Motors, Mazda, Nissan, Subaru and Isuzu."

So they make atleast some of the honda pads if not all.

This is a bit like the clay argument...is the blue Clay Magic different from any other clay they make that is sold under another name? Are the Akebono OEM pads different from the ones sold under the Akebono brand? Only your hairdresser knows for sure.

Well, I went with the rockauto website. Got some Bendix CT-3 pads on wholesale for real cheap and found a coupon code online to take 5% off.

Thanks for the recommendations, guys.
