Repairing Fiberglas Scratches

Kids + bicycles + black 2008 H-D Streetglide, all in same garage together = BAD NEWS!!:cooleek::angry Got a scratch down to the white fiberlas on one saddlebag as a result!! Need suggestions on best procedure and materials to repair this damage.:buffing: Thanks for all input!!!

Ouch, I know how you feel as I have the same problem



Have you priced what it would cost to respray the bag? I would at least get a few estimates from local shops to get an idea of what it might cost.



There are a lot of threads here on scratch and chip repair. Too many to list in a post. I would use the search feature and do a search on "scratch repair".

I am not sure about what kind of paint or gelcoat the box has, but lets say it is paint, (it probably is) see if the dealer sells the small touch up paint (like nail polish bottle)



I have had decent results by neatly masking & lightly applying the touch up paint to the scratch, then once fully cured take 800 or 1000 grit wet paper and carfully sand it down (i would leave masking tape on untill it is level) pull the tape and re-mask about 1/4 or 1/2in out from the scratch and blend down further.



The tape acts as a ramp and keeps you from sanding the surrouding good finish.

finally pull the tape and take some 1500 wet sand smooth and hit it with the buffer and your favorite compound . Not perfection but a pretty good repair for very cheap.



Or like it was said get it resprayed...........Or better maybee an airbrush guy could also fix you up pretty cheap
