My wife sat a plastic bag over christmas on my console of my 08 silverado, well in the bag was with other contents a pair of scissors that put a 1/4 inch slit right on top of the lid. What would be the best way to repair that?

there are repair kits that work pretty well if you take your time ... otherwise it might be better for the long run, if you are planning on keeping the truck, to just get a new one ;)

Look for a leather repair place in your area...I've found that after market repair kits don't really look right in the end...the way that I would go about finding one...Google your area...or call on your local dealerships and ask who they use for this type of repair...very good chance they have someone that is local that you can use...I have two here locally

The only thing i would suggest would be a upholster shop. Hope that will help you :hmmm:

I think i will call dealer and see who they may use,its not that big but i see it now. Its still small i figure a small patch is better than a large one.DANG IT! that was my first new truck i ever bought and my 40th b-day present to myself.O-well cant stay new forever.

Check with a good new car dealer prep manager.
Most of them have someone they use regularly.
I had a seat redyed in the used car prep of the Cadillac/Lexus dealer several years back by the guy that did all their work.

I thought about the replacement like Steve said, but it appears the lid alone is between $200 and $300.
Thar was from an internet search and it sounds ridiculously high. Might be worth pricing a replacement from your dealer rather than rely on what I found.

I would try one of those little repair kits first if it's that small. Hmmm. I need to look into having those on our site.

Do some checking on new price.
I can buy a new on for my Corvette for $ 39.95
Corvette prices are typically higher than other cars but for 40 bucks I would go with a new one rather than patching it.

that was my thought being that it's new ... I would also check with the dealer who sold you the truck ...send the wife  and sobbing :( and maybe they'll give her it at dealer cost to keep a happy customer ;)

I have just done the same thing to my Murano, but replace console with seat and inch with three...I have no idea how I did it, but its driving my nuts. Am I doomed to buying a new seat???

Typically you can buy the covering for much less than the seat. Ford used to sell the pieces individually so you could get just a back or seat and then have an upholstery shop replace it. I don't know if they still do or if other manufacturers do business this way.

Is this the full console or the jumpseat?I know the replacement lid for the full console is upwards of 300 bucks.

If it's the jumpseat just have someone cover it in leather

Mine is still there and i look at it every time it get in the truck.Im going to the dealer next week will let yall know.

I just discovered that is how they do it. I went out at lunch time and found a guy who said he could replace the pieces mind you this is an auto upholstery shop, he said he could replace the one section with the tear, and the other that is worn for $275. Or the whold bottom portion of the seat for $500. I will be going with the $275...but still wow...

yes, leather repair and replacement is getting more and more expensive. Personally Stephan if you are going to replace a section and a wear area, it might be worth it to just bite the bullet and do the whole piece so that sewing isn't needed. :hmmm:

I was thinking the same thing after I posted. ITs probably best to get the entire piece done at least so it will look like new. I didn't realize the side piece on the seat was vinyl and not leather, I wonder if that wears quicker???

it certainly does wear faster as far as rubbing against it... coated leather should be much stronger ..matching hides is not easy ... that's why I'd do the whole bottom ;)
