removing the dealer's free adverstisement

OK, I've decided that since this weekend I am pretty free I wanted to remove the dealer sticker on my car. I did a search and found this two year old thread that mentioned using a blow dryer and goo gone. Since the advice was two years old I was wondering if there are any better methods out there. If you list methods please also list precautions. The reason is because I don't like the dealer that I got my car at since I think my car was overpriced so I don't want to display their ugly decal to help them advertise. Thanks.
 
I was able to peel mine off with just my fingernail with no problem. It's like it was never there and looks much better. I have never been able to understand why people leave those on. Why advertise for free? Also, why to people keep those horrible license plate frames from the dealership, they look even worse. Mine came off the same week I bought my Explorer (as soon as I got my Weathertech frames). Now everything looks clean and new.
 
Usually the glue is actually one of those weatherproof 3m strips, so you can attack it after the car has sat in the sun for a few hours, or aim a hairdryer at it for a few to soften it, and then just peel it off. You can also use thin fishing line to "saw" away the backing. Finish up with some adhesive remover, wash, polish, wax.



I've actually seen dealerships in Texas that will have somoene PAINT on the dealer logo. How horrible is that!
 
Hair dryer / heat gun goo gone or bug and tar dental floss helps sometimes and remember to wash and wax area after really well. and check to make sure the badge is not in with a screw. some of the Dealer tags like Ford and such are held in and make a ugly hole when taken off.

Hair dryer & Goo Gone is the best way. Its like magic. I put a rag right under the emblem and soked the emblem in goo gone(making sure I didnt get it all over the paint.). Got the hairdryer out and held about 3 to 6 inches away for about a minute. The i tryed to take the emblem off. If that doesnt work, try more goo gone and let the hair dryer sit on the emblem longer.

The decal on my car was sort of sticky vinyl lettering. It came off easily with a hair dryer and a plastic credit card as a scraper. Didn't need GooGone. I did use a little rubbing alcohol ti clean the area afterwards.
 
I agree, remove all that dealer CRAP. Most people just don't care though. My sister just bought a beautiful new Infinity M35 and it has front and rear license plate frames with big honkin' dealer ads. I asked her how she can stand to have that crap on her new car and she said she doesn't care. :confused:

I saw a pickup truck here this morning that had Tennessee tags.. the dealer's "advertising" was etched into the metal of the rear bumper! :hairpull :wall :angry
 
well there is one reason if your vehicle is going to be serviced at the dealer you bought it, i know of a couple of dealerships in tyler, texas and other areas including North carolina where the mechanics are essentially told to work faster and usually do a better job and charge lower prices to people that have there dealer sticker on the car. I got one for one of my friends cars and the next time it was serviced it cost 20 dollars less. So it does have small benefits. not that i would ever trust a dealership near any aspect of my car.
 
Stupid me I used FMJ and got a bit on the black plastic door handles and 2 spots on the trim for the front bumper. NOW I can't get it off. It was on there for MAYBE a second



Yes I searched. I have tried QD, Peanut butter, degreaser (simple green, castrol super clean, purple power), soap, woolite, etc. I can't seem to get it off in a few spots.





Any suggestions?
