Removing swirls from polished lip on nice rims? Help please, master gurus!

If the nicks and scratches are through the clearcoat you may have to strip the clear. I recently stripped one of my aluminum wheels that had CC because it was heavily scratched/nicked. I'm planning on doing the others as well and posting the results here. Once the clear is gone you've gotta wetsand to get rid of the deeper nicks and such. Then choose to either spray new clearcoat out of a can or leave it naked. I think it's personal preference whether you want to try and do it yourself or take it to a shop. I got my set of stock OEM rims for a 90-91 Accord for $50 so I wasn't too worried about damaging them. Good luck:)

What grit sand paper are you using?

Honestly, if I were you I'd just take them to a wheel shop to get the lips repolished/clearcoated. You could always sand them down yourself and repolish, but if you use over-the-counter clearcoats it'll yellow over time and won't look good. Plus they're Volks and not Rotas, so it'd be worth your while to get the lips refinished professionally.
