Removing scratches

I recently performed the following on my vehicle:

Wash with Dawn to remove old wax

Clay'd the car to remove imperfections and tar/ect.

Waxed with Mothers Sealer/Glaze

Waxed with Eagle-1 Carnuba paste

The paint looked like new except for tons of scratch marks all over the hood and decklid/spoiler that showed under direct lighting. I know there are some scratch-removers on the market, but I don't really trust their claims.

Any suggestions as to the appropriate product to use?

Finally, how about a product to polish the plastic headlight covers to remove or hide the beating they have taken?

TIA

you need to be a little bit more specific about your 'scratches' - can you feel them with your fingernail? or are they swirl marks? etc. etc. In any event - download DavidB's ebook - you will find it in the DOWNLOAD section located in the upper left. Lots of good info in there.

Plexus is a good for plastic - lots of people use it here, I have also heard good things about the Novus system. You can find some really good products to help your paint locally, lots of people here like the 3M line of products.

The SEARCH function is your best friend here in this forum.

Scratches cannot be felt and are not swirls marks. Most run L-R across the hood and trunk as if something was dragged across it. You can only see them at certain angles during the day or under the lights in my garage...

Thanks for the book info. I'll check it out.

Yeah, search is my friend...Got-cha.... :)

Yeah, you'll find lots of answers in David's e-book. Also, a search of the forum using this page will turn up tons of useful threads. You'll find many useful tips on how to use the search engine in the Autopia Search Tips thread. Once you do some basic reading so you understand concepts, principles, and basic tools in the detailing arsenal, we'll be able to help you lots more.

Audtatious,

Since the scratches you describe are not deep enough to get caught by your fingernail, you might want to consider getting some ScratchX to remove the scratches and then follow up with Meguiar's Dual Action Cleaner Polish to remove any hazing and swirl marks.

Once you do that, you can follow up with your fave wax so you can make that Majestic Blue gleam. :D

As far as the plastic is concerned, you might want to consider Plexus. If the situation is too severe, get some Renovo and then follow up with Plexus.

Thanks guys...

Prinz, when are you coming to visit? My garage is cleaned out and you will have plenty of room to detail both of our Max's :D

I'll supply food and beer :xyxthumbs

.....and I'll supply the Klasse, Plexus, MFs, CWB,.....you get the idea. ;)

On a different note, bud. To get some of the supplies we talk about here, you might want to check out www.tacscar.com since he's a stone's throw away from you in KY.

BTW, audtatious is a buddy of mine from another Maxima/Nissan forum. :D
