removing sap from paint

Someone on another thread shared a link to a site called www.containerstore.com. I was looking for replacement bottles for ZFX, as well as some smaller bottles for dispensing detailing products.

Well, I must say that the containerstore rocks! I bought 30 of the 2oz bottles at $0.79 each and 10 of the 4oz bottles at $0.89 each. They just came today, and they look like they're going to be great!

The plastic is much softer than the original ZFX bottles, so it should be easier to squeeze out the product, especially in cooler weather. I've attached a picture if anyone is interested in buying some. The shipping charges were very reasonable - around $6 to priority mail 40 bottles. I ordered on Saturday night and they came today (Wednesday).

We have a ContainerStore here in San Diego. I love the place. We just finished doing a whole closet with their stuff. Garage next? Hope so.

Thanks for letting us know about the bottles.

I posed that link in the other thread. That place is great. I just finished putting a few shelves in my pantry.

Fenrir - thank you very much!!! As you know, I searched everywhere for bottles and everyone I talked with had no idea where to get them...craft stores, lowes, home depot, etc.

Thanks again!!! I owe ya' one! ;)

Hey my pleasure. I love sharing a good find with people. I figure i learned a ton of stuff since i found this place, I could give a little back. Just don't ask me the best place to get hot wings in Chgo... Hey a guys gotta have some secrets.:D

I think 2OZ bottle is a little unpractical (at least for me) unless you mix minimum of 1oz each time. I find that if I mix 1/2 OZ in the Zaino bottle (I use less than 1/2 OZ per coat), it is very difficult to squeeze the product out. I just ordered 10 of 1 OZ bottle from containerstore and hope that will ease up the problem.

I'm a Zaino distributor and I put together a starter kit that includes a small amount of Z-1 in a bottle with a squeeze top (enough to do several average cars since most people only use Z-1 once a year). I get my bottles at WalMart in the cosmetics area. They usually run anywhere from 60 to 90 cents and I buy them by the box, usually about 24 bottles or so.

have a black chevy pickup with sap spots on hood. Any special tricks to getting this off before polishing or during ? thanks in advance John

Yuppers... use an alcohol-based glass cleaner, or you can simply use isopropyl alcohol. If you choose the isopropyl alcohol route, you certainly can dilute it. If the sap is soft, you should be able to mist the affected area, let it sit a minute, and wipe away. If the sap is rock hard, you can saturate a rag and set it atop the affected area, or saturate a small piece of the rag and place it directly on the sap, and wipe occasionally until it comes off.

I use Meguiar's Detailer Glass Cleaner for sap all the time. It's like magic! \m/

Hey John,
You can also try a mild to aggressive clay. But, understand that it might cause some marring.
Where in NJ are you from? I am in Morris County. Nice to have another Jersey boy here on TID.

I've found that ice cubes work great for this. They provide a little cutting action like clay but wont mar your paint like the clay does. Just be sure to hold it with a fabric of some kind because this method for some reason tends to slip out of your hands easily ;)
