Removing Magic marker on paint??!?!?!

Hi everyone,



On Saturday, i went out to my fiancee's parents' house to help get set up for her bridal shower. Unfortunately, I ran out of time to move my car to my "safer" parking spot (we live in a townhouse). The "unsafe" parking spot is in front of a house that has about 1,000 kids living in it, and they zoom around inches from my car on Razor scooters, and throw rocks and swing sticks at each other with wild abandon.



I've talked to parents on the street a million times about talking to their kids about being safer around cars. No response.



Anyway, as I came back on Saturday night after finishing up with the shower, I noticed that someone drew on my MINI Cooper S's rear bumper with a magenta-colored Sharpie-type marker!!!!!



After I was stabilized by paramedics, and armed with clay bar, Z-7 wash, and 3M Tar and Adhesive Remover, I got to work trying to remove the marks. I was able to get them *mostly* off, but there seems to be a permanent stain on the paint from the marker.



I'll post pics later tonight, as I've not had time to snap them yet. :angry



I'd like to get the problem resolved so i can begin my campaign of threats with a clearer head. Any suggestions on where to go from here to remove the stains?

That really sucks.



I'm not sure if this will work for you but a while back I happened to get permanent black magic marker ink on my wife's washing machine and dryer. WD40 took it right off.
 
that sucks... have u tried to polish it off? thats worked for me in the past... and also, if i were you, i would go over to your neighbors and bite their heads off, as well as make them pay to have it done at a body shop or something.. (even tho it doesnt need it) my gfs niece wrote all over my car in crayon (thankfully came off with quik detailer)... i was so heated that as soon as i saw it i ran inside and started yelling @ her... little brat anyway...

I'm thinking that's the route I'll have to go. Though I'm a fairly green Autopian, I've not gotten my feet wet yet on hand or machine polishing...



I'm thinking now's the time.



Does anyone have recommendations for a good, low-abrasion hand polish I could use? I don't have a PC yet (come on, Christmas!), and I do have a bottle of ScratchX lying around, but I think that might be too rough for the marker job.



Anyone else have input?

i wouldnt use the scratchx... try something low abrasive... such as a paint cleaner... and then if that doesnt work step up to something else... but i would recommend sonus paint cleanser, or p21s paint cleanser... if you are lookin for something that u can get @ a local store, then try the meguiars deep crystal system, but try step 1, which is a paint cleanser... that should work.
 
use medallion premium paint cleaner(by meguiars). Takes off things you can't get off by claying, and even removes light swirls.
 
I ordered the P21S Paint Cleanser, as I've been meaning to pick some up for a while.



Hopefully, it'll be strong enough to kill the stains. In your experiences with removing problems like mine, did you find the P21S to be too gentle?
 
No, I've not tried the alcohol yet. Since the 3M Adhesive/Tar Remover is very solvent-y, and didn't completely do the trick, I'd have the same results with alcohol.



Waiting for P21S to arrive.... maybe a quick alcohol rub-down after Cleansing and before rewaxing is in order...
 
Alcohol seems to work best but the solvents from the ink pen do penetrate the paint surface and leave behind a stain. Try leaving the stain alone for a week or so then try again. Also I've found that by placing a dry paper towel on the alcohol after it has rested on the surface for a few seconds helps to pull the ink into the towel and away from the paint...no rubbing necessary. Thanks for all the great suggestions.



I used P21S GEPC to try removing the marker, and it worked flawlessly.



The only interesting thing of note is that the spot i tried using the 3M Adhesive/Tar Remover on is now permanently stained, though very, very faintly. The untreated section came off perfectly with the GEPC.



Thanks again. I should've known better than to worry about this issue.
