removing 'imprint' of previous windshield logo banner strip.

The previous owner had vinyl letters at one time or another on the windshield. It looks as if the factory tint there is faded compared to the rest of the windshield and you can still make out the lettering faintly.



I polished the outside of the glass already to remove wiper haze/marks and tried it a bit on the inside and nothing seemed to affect it.



I have tried lacquer thinner, acetone, goof off, polish....



Anyone have ideas, maybe it permanently affected the glass?

Usually the factory tint is embedded inside the windshield. If those letters covered the sunlight to it I could see it being very plausible that the rest faded and left that portion darker. If it was just on the glass a few of the things you tried should have taken care of it. Really the only option is a new windshield.
 
I bet if the sun has "bleached" the tint, now that you have the lettering off the sun will bleach the rest and it should match up fine in time.
 
the wierd thing is where the letters were, the tint is LIGHTER...it's odd and I have never seen anything like it.
