Removing burnt tire rubber from wheel wells?

I detail quite a few Mustangs, Camaros, Vettes, etc. and I have noticed that many of them are caked with burnt rubber in the wheel wells. Do you guys take the time to remove this? I did a Camaro last week and told the customer that it would have taken me all day to remove just the burnt rubber. He frequents the local track every weekend and does huge burnouts to heat his slicks. He didnt mind though because he knew it would just get full of rubber within a week anyway. I honestly dont know how I would be able to remove it on a lowered car when I can barely get my hands in there. Even when I got my hands in there I could only break off small chunks at a time :down :angry :sosad

Hehehe Camaro... Burning the tires... na Never.... nope... Never would think they would do that ;)

I Dont clean more than 2 inches in to the wells unless they ask for more. Then the charges apply

Pour a healthy bit of clorox in front of the tires, pull into it, 2nd gear, 4-5k rpm clutch dump. Hold for 4-5 seconds to get a good coating (try longer if you're in for a show). Let soak for 3-5 mins and agitate.

:D :p :bounce

well jegs/summit have some have some stuff you spray under the fender wells that removes it, if you can find the name of the product do google search and see if they sell it in bulk

LOL Redcar GUY!!!! Ya we got the horsepower cars in this thread for sure!! I guess the topic title attracted some attention hehe!

I am just not looking forward to tomorrows detail with the Z06. The guy goes to the track with slicks and heats the crap out of them before he launches :(

Here's my 2001 and 2003 Cobras

Try several applications of full strength Castrol Super Clean. Spray, let it soak 5-10 minutes, spray, let it soak again 5-10 minutes. This should soften it up considerably, then use a putty knife to scrape it off. Repeat until tire residue is gone. Rinse very well, then rinse again, twice.

Hmmmm, 371 RWHP, 475 RWTQ daily driver, here

You got me Gonzo my daily drivers is only 120 hp Ford Escort wagon. :bow

The pictured 95 black Z28 and 3 others are "Garage Queens"

One non-daily driver I have may compete with no power adders all engine.

67 Chevelle SS 396 convertible - 375-hp Z-16 Torque - way toooo much for the bias-ply tires that it rides on!!!!

:xyxthumbs

The '88 Accord listed at 120 bhp new (fuel-injected high performance model). I haven't dynoed it, but I'm assuming after 16 years (-) and using AMSoil for the past 75K miles and dropping in a K&N air filter (+) I might be at around 108-111 bhp. If we have had a light rain and I am pulling a U-turn after a good brake-torque, I can just barely catch the inside tire. Surprisingly, I haven't had a problem with burnt rubber build-up.

I was thinking about the Tornado and some Slick 50 to really see some raw horsepower gains. Then I may have to revisit this thread to find out how to remove the Michelin X-One residue.

PSP 4 way

FTVB & deep B&M

Cone Air filter

Accufab

Metco idlers

Ranchos

4:10's

REM diffy cover

Line lock

Hoosier slicks

Chrome replicas

and the next things on my TODO list is a new front bumper cover and an OP-free repaint. No more power, cause it heading to the tranny shop next week for a MonsterBox-line rebuild. UGH SUCKS!

Maybe you would be kind enough to offer your thoughts about my "TRANNY/REAR-END PROBLEM" after reviewing these 2 threads

I cannot believe with my wimpy power that I have wasted the tranny at 50K miles, only about 25 1/8th mile passes and totally sane street/interstate driving.
