I've used Mother's Back to Black for that. It's not really the best protectant, I don't think that it's supposed to be, though. It removes wax and polish from trim, and then you can apply protectant.
Would love to, however car just came from dealer 1200 miles away in enclosed transporter. I would think there has to be an easy way to remove it even for a novice like me
Spray scotchgard on the waxed area and take a soft scub brush. This sould do the trick and protect it at the same time. You may have to do it several times.
