Remove wax from Emblems w/ acetone!

Tired of having to clean wax off my emblems so I decided to acetone them!

Here is the badge before. This pick is before I waxed this panel so it wasn't that bad. Some polish reside still on the emblem though. The one on the tailgate was worse. Blue thing across the top is painter's tape.

Here it is after being accetoned

Get some nitrile gloves for working with that stuff it eats thru latex fast. Great stuff but very evil. Looks good BTW

Don't let that stuff touch the paint!!! Acetone can cause clearcoat failure and should NOT be used on painted surfaces. It's a very, very strong solvent that causes "checking" of the clear (It's that strong, it begins to disolve a thin layer of the clear) and leads to clearcoat failure.

Yhea, I'm aware of that. I taped around the whole emblem with painter's tape as well as held papertowels on the bottom edge of the emblem so if a drop ran down the emblem it would hit the towel and not even touch the painter's tape

wow, so from the picture it looks like you made the whole thing chromed by using acetone? How's that work cause none of the black stuff is left but the XLT letters are untouched?

Them black stuff on the emblem is a black paint that came from the factory like that. I simply used the Acetone to remove the black paint. The XLT letters are stickers. I was careful not to scrub them too hard and they came out fine!

If you have wax around your emblems the easiest and safest way to remove it is by using a stiff-bristled paint brush. Go to the hardware store and buy a 1" paint brush. Take it home and cut down the bristles to 1/2". It's not easy to do so take your time. When done you'll have a very dense paint brush. Then literally brush away the wax residues around the emblems. Works great around all kinds of trim and you don't have to worry about harsh chemicals.

Look at what I'm talking about here:

I have like 5 brushes like that bret... I use them for everything. Getting wax off trim, pin striping, dirt from seams on the dash, carpet, etc.

They really work well.

Title was just a joke BTW. You saw what the acetone did to the badges?
