Removal of Bumper Scratches

I recently got scratches on the bumper when I was driving down the I-95 during a thunderstorm. There were tree branches on the I-95 that the wind was blowing around and I could not swerve out of the way of them. They left these marks on my bumper. Now I have been detailing my cars for about a year and know that these marks are too deep to be buffed out. Here are pics of the damage.

I know I will have to go to a body shop to get it repaired. Now, what I need from you guys is a guesstimate of how much the repair will be and what procedure will most likely be used to fix this. I'm hoping it will cost less than $250.

IMO the body shop is going to what to spray the whole bumper. It would be at your $250 at least IMO. I think the smaller round area of marks would come out with a PC. You might be able to fill in the deep ones with touch up paint and then wet sand it smooth. Thats if you don't want to spray the whole bumper the quote is to high.

exactly. my sis is going through a big ordeal with a body shop who was only to fix the corner left bottom bumper in the front, only to find out they didn't take the bumper off and sprayed onto the fenders as well (weren't suppose to even touch the fenders at all), to try and mix and match the paint (she's in the course of taking legal action aka: sue and notify the better business bureau). i'll i have to say is, make sure you go with a reputable shop and no exactly the way your car went in.

Use caution. The paint on plastic bumpers is usually much thinner than what is applied on the rest of the body.

A good shop can just spot in the area that's scratched and won't have to reshoot the whole bumpercover. I have repairs like that done from time to time and I only have the whole thing reshot if it needs that much paintwork done.



IMO that should *not* be redone with with touch up paint and wetsanding, it needs sprayed with either an airbrush or a small touchup gun.



The trick, of course, is to find a "good shop".

I got a thin single gouge like yours near the bottom of my bumper too. I used the Chipstik from TurtleWax Colourcure to fill it in nicely, then once it "cured" I just waxed right over it. Can't really tell that it's there unless you look carefully.
